How do you deal with the disorganized world?

For me, there's a difference between organizing, controlling, and managing. I find managing is easy and organizing is easier yet, but controlling is harder . . . maybe impossible.

When I had my cabinet shop, I had my Monday planned, organized, and managed. I had the work orders in the shop, the materials stocked, the machines ready and the help hired and trained. I set up delivery for Tuesday and Martha, my finisher, sunburns her feet at the lake Sunday and can't come to work cause she can't get her shoes on and walking hurts her.

I had two things set up to go against me. #1, I had expectations, and #2, I thought by managing, organizing and planning, I could control the outcome of the day. I couldn't, and I didn't. Objectively this was all easy to deal with, but my biggest problem of the day was my own emotions. As a rational adult, I've aspired to the objective and I've often ended up fighting my own emotions.

I finally had to make a game out of my own disappointments and I made an excuse list and numbered them. Sunburned feet was #42. My dog died was #11. My wife had a baby was #18, and my mother had a baby was #19.

I had one guy who's car didn't start as soon as it was parked in front of his apartment but in all the two years he worked for me it NEVER failed to start in my parking lot. In the end I just had to do my best and laugh and add to my list because the problem wasn't the problem, I was the problem.

Relax free2. Although it's important to be organised if you're doing heart surgery, most situations in life are not important at all. Almost everything we do won't make a scrap of difference to anyone tomorrow, let alone a week from now.

I'm not saying you should drop your own standards, I'm just saying don't get stressed about the perceived need for everything to run perfectly.

Oh, it is just how I am. I know it can sound annoying, and it probably is to some, but I do like to be in an organized situation. I have been told many times, I take it to far. Even to the point that my key chain is color coded. LOL
