Let's just get something straight about 1914.

Nobody ever said that the end was coming in 1914.

"Did the Watchtower specifically mention the 1975 date or not"

It wasn't just elders that hyped "Armageddon by '75", specific statements were made by Circuit Overseers at conventions and in special talks. Statements such as "Stay Alive til 75" and others about how soon the doors will be closed in the ingathering work.

The conventions and special talks were all officially sanctioned by the Watchtower, hence the only conclusion one can make is that the Watchtower did indeed mention the year 1975 as the year for Armageddon.

Does anyone have a tape of the 1970 special talk, "Who Will Conquer the World in the 1970's?"

That talk HAS to be brought forward again and digitized for all to hear.

Would a 36 year old tape still be playable?

I currently have to live everyday of my life running to bunkers because of attacks on our military base and these are not drills, this is the real thing.

Prove it. I ain't got no 'holier than thou' attitude. I was trying to reason with you. Some folks cain't be reasoned with. So... PROVE that you are where you say you are. Something in print.

    Regards,

What Jim_TX is simply saying is this:

True statements of fact need not be published in print for them to be true.

LL, I hope this copy and paste works. I thought this paragraph was awsome!

    bummer it won't paste

In the wt article you posted, the last one, it points out the difference between those that prophesied falsely and the wts. Why they were wrong and the wts is right. LOL! They got their info directly from God that the end was coming in the 70's.

    "What was missing?"

"Missing from such people were God's truths and the evidence that he was guiding and using them"

"But what about today?" "Today we have the evidence required, all of it!"

As long as it was kept in a temperate environment with not too much humidity, it should be OK.

Early on in this thread, I pointed out that the JW organization's claims regarding 1975 were not simple and direct statements, but were the "If A, then B" result of multiple statements. I don't want to waste time with closet apologists, but perhaps it would help an honest Doubting Thomas or two out there if I gave a documented example.

The May 1st 1968 issue of The Watchtower on page 271 said:

Notice that there is no equivocation about the year of Eve's creation. Both Adam and Eve were created in 4026. Notice also that at the beginning of the paragraph the concurrency between God's seventh day and the time man had been on earth was an apparency, but by the end of the paragraph, it was a certainty.

A little more than one year later, the October 15th, 1969 issue of The Watchtower stated on page 623:

Notice that now, the truthfulness of Jesus himself is tied to JW chronological speculation. Man had been enslaved for nearly 6,000 years. When that period ended, Christ's millennial reign would begin. Either Jesus had told the truth or he had not. There was no third option.

I'm not sure if the following article from the Arizona Republic (Aug. 24, 1969) has been linked to yet, but, if not, it belongs in this thread.
