An ex-jw called the Dr. Laura show today. I always miss the beginning of the JW callers. Did anyone hear it? I believe the lady had an affair, left her husband and the religion. Her kdis (two i think) are still witnesses. She has custody and O think the questions was should she still take them to their meetings. Dr. Laura didn't let her really explain why she didn't want to. She just told her she should cont. to take them even if she doesn't go herself. Oh, I think the ? was should she not take them and give them the opportunity to experience other things. Anyways, again did anyone hear the show? Maybe the caller posts on here. I am usually with DR. Laura and I see where she is coming from with this but sometimes she acts like the only good people in the world are the ones who believe in God and attend some type of religious meetings.

I missed it. I'm a 'fan' of Dr. L but sometimes she does like you said and speaks over the person, not letting them explain...and in this case she probably has no real clue what the JWs are all about. Too bad for the caller, I do hope that person does post here or gets some real help somewhere!

Dr.Laura used to be quite intelligent and useful. However, when she descended into religious hell her advice became pedantic and holier than thou. Her position on the Ten Commandments is ludicrous and hopelessly misinformed.

I can't imagine Dr.Laura having anything useful to tell an ex-Jw.

I'll bet her broadcasts are available on the Internet via streaming radio. Do a search.

She gave her usual diatraid......."your children have already lost one parent and their intact home, do not take away their religion too."

I could have barfed! I was totally gearing up to hear her say something else, anything else because she has hinted on other shows that JW's and Mormons are basically a cult. I was so disappointed that the X-JW agreed with her and ever so mousily (sp) said she would continue to not only take the children regularly but also sit in on the meetings with them. Really blows!

Terry I agree with you. Her holier than thou stance.......and don't even get me started on her political philosophy it's over the top!

I'll tune into her show once every blue moon.....hardly ever for more than a few minutes it's all I can take lately. I used to be an advid Dr. Laura fan in the 90's she was very informative to this on the fringe at the time JW.

Anyway Sandy you got the idea of what was said, nothing great or profound I did think it was weird that the x-witness was so open on the air. I always wonder why people can't figure out what the best thing to do for their own family is on their own, baffels me!

I guess I never caught Dr. Laura in the years before she became a judgmental, religious zealot. I can't imagine why anyone would call her show...especially women. The last time I heard a portion of one of her programs, she fawned all over the guy caller (who's morals and problem didn't seem any better than the women callers) and was rude and nasty to a couple of young women. I don't like her or her smug certainty that she's knows better than everybody else how to behave. Of course, I don't like Dr. Phil either, so maybe its just that I'm annoyed by anybody who pretends they have all the answers and gains celebrity status by smacking people around in a public forum.

If Dr. L told that xdub to continue taking her kids to meetings and not give them a chance to experience anything else, she's a fool who has no understanding of what JWs really are and what that kind of life does to young people.

Dr Laura's radio program is very popular, but there is something that is not quite right about the advice she gives the callers.

Something about her advice in general just doesn't sound right.

I have absolutely no respect for Dr. Lurid. I have had the displeasure of hearing many of her sanctimonious monologues. She treats her callers like toe nail fungus. I think she is a mockery to the psychology profession. She is like the Howard Stern of radio show doctors. Wait, no. I just insulted Howard Stern.

I haven't heard her in years but have her book the 10 Stupid Things Women Do.

I think maybe Dr. Laura needs an education in jwism!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Off to her web site!

Back in the early 80's I worked nights and weekends at a local radio station. The general manager was an elder in my congregation and the office manager was the wife of a ministerial servant. (Other people in the congregation worked there, too.)

Laura Schlessinger had a show there for a few weeks. One day she closed her show, packed her things and took her light home with her. She never returned. Never gave notice. Never told the general manager. Just left.

A friend of mine told me about it. There were bets on if she was gone for the day or just gone.

    She was gone.

Odd one. I just never trusted her. I was surprised that she became as popular as she did but thought her behavior to be completely unprofessional. I don't think there was anything she was disgruntled about. Seems that she was just offered a better deal somewhere else and didn't see a need to tell anyone that she would not return. There was a scramble to fill her time slot the next day.

    Quirky of her Denise.

There is some thing about her this past couple of years that is just strange to me. Maybe it's because I hadn't listened to her for a couple of years then started again. Her boy had grown up during that time and suddenly she was anti college there was nothing good about colleges according to her. Of course she hated public schools too and sent her boy to a private one.

Scans to recently her boy joined the military and of course she is rabid political yay! yay! USA and I'm the proud mother of a US soldier......yadda, yadda, yadda. Not to knock those things at all but she goes completely over board and I'm always suspicious of people who are over the top, over zealous, heck maybe it's due to my JW back ground? LOL

Anyway I get from all of this that her boy couldn't adjust to public schools, was probably nerdy and got picked on so she put him in a private one, no biggy. I also wonder if he couldn't cut college so it's off to the military for him? She often says to parents about troubled boys; "send them to a military school."

She just seems to be somewhat enmeshed in her son's life. It's gotta suck being the only child and the total focus of an A-type parent, then add to that a public figure.

Oh well just my ramblings for the night.
