Scans to recently her boy joined the military and of course she is rabid political yay! yay! USA and I'm the proud mother of a US soldier......yadda, yadda, yadda. Not to knock those things at all but she goes completely over board and I'm always suspicious of people who are over the top, over zealous,

Dr. Lurid is basically Jerry Falwell in drag.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I understand she's not even a psychologist. That would explain many things strange about her show. I can't stomach it, I tried... once. couldn't stand it.

It's gotta suck being the only child and the total focus of an A-type parent, then add to that a public figure.

    Excellent observation.

Dr. Laura's PhD is in physiology! not psychology. She did, however, complete some training in family counseling. Also, the does have a Jehovah's Witness on her staff. It's just my opinion, but I personally believe she favors the JW's because they are closer to Judiasm then mainline Christianity, belief-wise. I also found out recently that Oprah has some JW's on her staff and that she is a good friend of one JW writer whose book she featured on her 'Book Cllub' list, Perhaps? this is why she has not had any negative input re the JW's (cult) on her show?

" that she is a good friend of one JW writer whose book she featured on her 'Book Cllub' list, "

And who would that be? I know of no JW writers good enough to have made it onto Oprah' club - though there is maybe an ex-JW or two. Actually, apart from the late Mickey Spillane, I know of no active JWs who are fiction writers.

I will check w/ my cousin who works on the show - alas my shorterm memory is poor due to my stroke - but I've made a note to phone and will get back with you!

Seeker, I phoned my cousin - she said the author is Jane Hamilton - and the book that made it on Oprah's list was "The Book of Ruth" My cousin is under the impression that she IS still a JW - but, of course, could be wrong.:) Since she is a well-known lesbian - likely she is no longer active- perhaps even Dd'd?

Well Dr. Laura really does have a lot of great advice. But she definitely has been way over the top these past few years or so when it comes to the USA. Her opinions on college surprise me a little bit. I listen on and off. What I absolutely love about Dr. Laura is that her advice is always about what is in the best interest of the kids. Maybe she isn't truly informed about J-dubs. I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt.

What is Dr. Laura's current viewpoint on college? --VM44

Near as I can tell VM44, that college is all about the party and not the education. She thinks the kids are way too wild. It evidently was nothing like that when she went to college.
