My husband was listening to a radio station the other day and said there was news that the WTS has decided that Jesus dying on a cross rather than a stake may not be as far-fetched as they once thought.

Have any of you heard this? I have been cruising the threads to see if there was already one on this subject. Haven't seen any. If there is, point me to it! I'm interested!

I've heard/read nothing. I still attend meetings. This is something that would come
out in a WT study article for the rank and file, but would probably be sent to elders
in a letter, first. It would not surprise me if it happened, one day, but I doubt it ever
will. Maybe the person on the radio got it wrong.

What the hey? A radio station that has talk shows on WTS beliefs? Talk about a niche programming angle!

Anyway, no dice. In the "Bible Teach" book, there is a whole appendix "proving" that Jesus died on a stake, not a cross. That particular bit of dogma is here to stay, at least for the foreseeable future.

I would very much doubt it. It may seem a small differrence that setd them apart from other churches, but I can't see them changing it. Apart from that, the older jws would never get used to the change if they made it, after all these years of calling it a stake.

What radio station? It could be possible to check with the station about that item that day.

Haven't seen any changes in the literature. I always felt that it really doesn't matter. Who cares if it had a crossbar on it or not? Doesn't change anything important. It is the society making a mountain out of a molehill as usual to be different from other religions.

doctrinal changes are final and permanent only when they appear in a WT publication. Even statements by GB members during talks do not count.

So it would be interesting to track down the source of this incomplete info.

That's why they will stick with it, even if archeology digs up proof that Romans were using the cross.
I said it could happen, but I really meant "in the face of overwhelming evidence, they would concede that it is possible."

    No.

The new Bible Teach book still makes an issue out of Christ dying on a stake (tree) NOT a cross.
