No. That would align them with Christianity and they've shown themselves to be aligned with Islam and other religions due to their participation at UN meetings regarding religious rights..

The largest cross in the western hemisphere, located outside Groom, Texas (it's 19 stories high)

Haven't seen any changes in the literature. I always felt that it really doesn't matter. Who cares if it had a crossbar on it or not? Doesn't change anything important. It is the society making a mountain out of a molehill as usual to be different from other religions.

Even when I was a jw, this was always something I put into the "It Just Doesn't Matter" category. During Rutherford's day, he did everything possible to separate his religion from everyone else's. Hell, he didn't even call it a RELIGION.

Even if they ever put into the "It Just Doesn't Matter" category they would NEVER be ok with the "cross" because of its pagan symbolism. They associate the cross with sex worship not Jesus.

The WTS changing this position would be astonishing. That a radio station would waste valuable air time discussing the watchtower cult's beliefs is even more surprising.

My husband said it was a brief comment made on a.m. talk radio and the person gave reference to a web site that does a comparison of WTS and Catholicism. He was flipping through looking for a sports channel, and just happened to hear the WTS mentioned, then the subject was over and went on to something else. He thinks it was a Catholic program.

It made me wonder if there has been some kind of evidence unearthed to shake the stake theory up. Maybe that is why they might be considering the cross to be a possibility, to save face before the info. gets out. I mean, they did manage to weasel out of 1925 and the Beth Sarim deal, then the world didn't end in 1975, yet people still stayed in the WTS. Would reverting back to the idea of Jesus dying on a cross be all that different?

When I've pointed out verses in the Bible with my JW friends that differ with the torture stake view, after a moment of silence, they always say that it really doesn't matter so much how He died afterall. I figured it might be an easier change for them to make than others they have managed in the past.

Actually he died on two parallel poles. The torture stake is pagan!

Yep. That was brought out many years ago during meetings and even written in the WT. The cross represents the male genitals.

That would be a small a tiny step towards mainstream culture but the solid WTS policy is to keep their flock inside emotional walls of isolation with such ideas that make them different and alien to the rest of society.
