My hubby and I were reading about how Rutherford used to write scathing things against the churches so that the JWs would be severely persecuted in some areas and he used this tactic to drum up support from people who felt sorry for them.

I don't think that handing out wacky tracts is going to stir up persecution in the way that driving sound cars and wearing sandwich signs did. We live in a totally different era. Most people already look upon Witnesses as strange, and as merely a minor irritation; but certainly not a threat. Most people will look at the tract; maybe snicker a bit; and then just crumple it up and throw it away the same way they would with take-out coupons or junk mail. Here in the U.S., the most persecution Witnesses get will be from a hung-over householder who tells them to go *#@! themselves.

lol, and a few funny blogs where people talk about the wierdo that told them the world is about to end.

I know a JW who thinks the tract campaign will cause a worldwide controversy. And then said it might even be a fulfillment of some prophecies in Revelation.

I told him that nobody cares about the Witnesses, and that everything will be forgotten about a few months after the campaign, just like when they gave out similar tracts in the 70s and in 95, when there was no worldwide controversy, and nobody cared.

You should have seen the look he gave me!

So many JWs live in their own little bubble world where everything they do (as a group) is important and everybody is looking at them and cares what they have to say. This is what happens when you are "no part of the world"...you lose your sense of perspective.

Nobody cares about their dumb pronouncements or controversial tract handouts. Most regular people think the dubs are religous nutcases.

LOL Yeah, many Witnesses view this as the Israelites marching around Jericho. My mom said: "I really think that this tract is either going to bring people into the organization; or cause the world to turn against us." I wanted to bust up laughing.

I wanted to ask: what about all of the idiotic and extremely controversial literature that has been circulated by the followers of Lyndon LaRouche and other organizations? That stuff was even more over the top than the KN about religion. There certainly wasn't any major backlash. I think that countries that have freedom of speech have become quite accustomed to bizarre and wacky information floating around the public arena. It's become somewhat of a novelty.

As everyone else has said, this "big announcement" will be about as noticed as a fart in a hot tub with the bubbles on. Let's do the math again:

7 million active publishers (that is REALLY stretching it but let's give 'em the benefit of the doubt)
50 tracts each (assuming that they all distribute all 50 tracts, which they won't)
The "message" of each tract gets to maybe two people, directly or by word-of-mouth (again, this is really generous)

What's their market penetration? 700,000,000. Seven hundred million. That means that, in completely optimum, perfect conditions which do not exist, their message gets to slightly better than one in nine people. Not exactly fulfillment of Bible prophecy. Not exactly an announcement to all the world.

And what's more realistic here, to be honest? More like 4 million actively distrubute these tracts, and they average 20 each, and maybe half of them get thrown out without being read, meaning a penetration of more like 40,000,000. Forty million. One in one hundred sixty five people.

Like I said: a fart in a hot tub.

Yeah, this "trumpet blast" of Revelation will be heard like a kazoo next to a busy highway.

A few days ago, I had a phone conversation with my fanatical regular pioneer mom and I mentioned the upcoming campaign, she was silent for a moment, then I said "you know, the campaign for the new tract about the end of false religion that's supposed to begin on october 16", she said "yes it starts October 16" "oh, you guys are going to the meetings?(with a smile on her face)" my reply "no, not really", I could tell the smile faded real quick, and she asked me how I knew this, I said "oh, I keep track of everything that goes on, I know that this is the third campaign this summer, and that it is pretty much the same as the one that came out in 73" she just said "oh yes, pretty similar" and I could hear in her voice that her brainwashed mind was trying to deal with this realization, but then she started changing the subject of course and we ended the conversation.

She will be out there wasting her last years on this DAMN PUBLISHING COMPANY POSING AS A RELIGION, IT REALLY PISSES ME OFF!!!!!

    Oh well, life goes on.

I recall hearing a LOT years ago about how towards the end of the last days, "Jehovah's message" (carried ONLY by JWs of course) would be more hard-hitting and bold...not the "invitation" for the free home bible study....but harsh warnings and urgent action to be taken, blah-blah-blah.

I don't think I've heard this directly referred to, but it seems that the irritating, biased and bigoted message being carried in this particular tract, might just be along these lines.

The "become a JW like WE are---or DIE!" message that they spread, is pretty much on target....and bears no resemblance to the true message of Jesus that is a calling to those who want refreshment for their souls through a loving Master rather than orders from the controlling tyrannical taskmasters who run the WTS.

I have learned one thing since coming away from that cult is I will never ever allow myself to be decieved again. I now know that all things are researchable and they will not fool me again....My religion is Jesus Christ and that is whre it stays till I die.

EXACTLY! This is how I see it too! I was deliberately robbed of knowing Jesus----the REAL Jesus---my entire thirty years in the Watchtower. I'm making up for lost time now......
