Virtue – moral excellence w/ the right MOTIVE.

Dub view of morality: Obey and do what we tell you or be destroyed at the Big A. If you fail, we'll throw you out in the street and let you beg to be taken back in.

True morality: Find the moral center in the universe and challenge yourself to live up to those standards. If you fail, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and keep going forward.

Which is the right motive? Which best defines virtue?

He said contentment is not a natural characteristic – but must be cultivated.

    WTF????? 'cultivated'????

Since when does one need to 'cultivate' contentment?

Maybe for these ol' geezers who have had to pry and pull their way to the top... one might use the term 'cultivate' - if you don't want to call it as it is...

These folks are out of touch with society - and I DON'T mean the WTB&TS. I mean the real world.

    Regards,

    Jim TX

They would do well to cultivate some "contentment" themselves rather than hoping God will kill over 6 billion men, women and children just so they can have the earth all to themselves.

Endure, keep working, the end is near, new release. It sounds like more of the District Assembly.

Brotherly Affection – fondness, affection for our brothers even though we know/see their weaknesses/faults.
We must not look at their flaws, but rather view them as Jehovah does, and be ready to die for them.
Love – for Jehovah and for our bro&sis. We must make peace with our b&s and bury any problems in an
    unmarked grave!

Must be lots of problems between Jehovah's loving people.

Seems like one day you'll walk into a KH and find yourself in the middle of a huge "bar fight". Now, wouldn't that finally be the "truth"!

Taking a quote from bronzefist's quote:

"We must not look at their flaws, but rather view them as Jehovah does, and be ready to die for them.
Love – for Jehovah and for our bro&sis. We must make peace with our b&s and bury any problems in an unmarked grave!"

This is just double-speak for "THOU SHALT NOT BRING LAW SUITS AGAINST THY FAITHFUL AND DISCREET SLAVE OR ANY OF OUR VARIOUS CORPORATE ENTITIES, DOMESTIC AND FOREIGN, NO MATTER WHAT THEY MAY BE CALLED AND NO MATTER WHO MAY BE LISTED AS OFFICERS AND DIRECTORS AND NO MATTER WHERE WE MAY HAVE SHELERED THE MONEY, EVEN IF IT BE IN OFF-SHORE ACCOUNTS IN ARUBA OR JERSEY (THAT IS, THE ISLE OF JERSEY FOR YOU ILLITERATES AND HOPEFULLY, MOST OF YOU ARE ILLITERATE BY NOW IF YOU HAVE BEEN FAITHFULLY FOLLOWING OUR DICTATES LO THESE MANY YEARS TO NOT GET A COLLEGE EDUCATION....)

In other words, you, rank and file, must not sue us for our crimes against you (insert your own particular crime here), but instead, you should be DYING for us or, if you can't quite bring yourself to do that, just FORGIVE us. No matter what, just BURY everything in that old unmarked grave.

Hmmmm, a rather neat synopsis of WTBTS history. Ha!

and once it fails the numbers will drop again. doesn't anyone see a pattern forming with the org? it sickens me.

Yes, there is indeed a pattern. The cycle runs approximately every 30 years:

    1911 - 1913: Run-up to 1914; Armageddon is right around the corner

1941 - 1945: World War II - Armageddon is right around the corner

    1971 - 1974: Run-up to 1975 - Armageddon is right around the corner

    2001 - 2006: 9/11, Terrorism - Armageddon is right around the corner

    2031 - 2033: Run-up to 2034 - Armageddon is right around the corner

Actually, I agree that we need to cultivate humility, viture, kindness, goodness and a host a other good qualities. This is just good sense and makes us better people. I just can't stand when they mix in their own rules, views, speculations and call it the will of God. That's what makes this organization cult-like and damaging. I'm sure the Pharisees mentioned the same things but also mixed in their own views and put it on the same level of God's commandments.

As never before we MUST keep our sense of urgency! Then he stated “The Governing Body is convinced that the Great Day of
    Jehovah is NEAR!”

How near??? well it is anyone's guess but the point they are trying to make overall is focus all your attentions reading and selling their books on their interpretations of the bible. If you don't then that is not a good thing (translate- GUILT) and Jehovah will only save those loyally doing his will (translate - fear.... 'doing his will' translate - whatever the society says)

It is sickening to see how they subtlety twist things to make people do what they want... the properly trained conscience is follow whatever the watchtower says regardless if it makes sense, is incorrect and even dishonest. What a clear example of mind control.

He said contentment is not a natural characteristic – but must be cultivated. It can be accomplished once our basic needs (food,
    love, protection) are met.

Here is a clear case where conscience comes in. People have different needs and different levels of personal security. Too often this thought is used to get people to limit their personal growth, educational growth, material wealth and so on. Endeavors not focused on doing the societies will are looked down upon, even earning the label 'dead works'. Another cult trait... keep them busy in what you want them to do and make them feel guilty and fearful if they don't. (and find scriptures the seemingly support your thinking and propound on people that your interpretation of the scripture is the only correct one).

Sometimes when I think too much on this topic, I feel sick.

    the carpenter.
