Really ? That's odd I don't remember hearing North Korea building nuclear weapons back then, it did not happen until Bush took office and attacked Iraq on a pack of lies.

oldflame you need to go back and check your facts, the reason why we gave them food and money was that they would stop the enrichment of uranium. Which they were doing WHILE Clinton was in office not Bush. So N. Korea must have known back in 1994 that Bush would be elected, 911 was going to happen, then Bush would invade Iraq. Sooooo they would need to build a nuclear weapon to protect themselves from the evil US.

Stop blaming Bush for all the evil in the world it was there before him and it will be there after. As far as I can see liberals don't have any plans to deal with the issues we face. All they and you seem to do is blame the current administration, not offering any solutions. Im not a Bush fan, but start offering solutions for the problems instead of bitching about it, then we can decided if it is a better way or not.

I certainly wouldn't blame Bush for all the problems in the world but he sure did escalate a lot of them unneccessarily!

    Jeff,

I just think that some interpret the Iran/NK situation in a wrong light - that GW is just looking for a new fight. I don't. He might be. I just don't see that currently. I would hope that any administration faced with nuclear proliferation by a country like Iran, would not take such as 'none of our business'.

I agree, I do not believe he is doing much more than rattling sabres, but this is where he is a matchless dolt.

When he uttered his ill-measured 'axis of evil' statement, he knew that those who looked to him as a leader would drool over such simplistic statements. What his writers should have realized is that countries like Iran, who view themselves as the second most dominant Oriental force, would be utterly flabbergasted and appalled by these words. These words and the sentiment they imply are in fact directly contributable, according to the Iranian Foreign Minister, for the hardening of government attitude towards the US in Iran and its brinkmanship regarding nuclear issues. I believe that the Bush Administration once again mishandled, in another stunning display of political ignorance, the sentiments of the Iranian people.

NK realizes, as does most of the world and a growing segment of the US, that the US is at present weakened militarily, in a quagmire economically, and socially divided. It is the ideal time to call the bluff of the US and further destabilize its core. Though Bush has noted that 'all options are on the table', he has been very quick this week to back away from any further jingoistic statements and has recommended the path of sanctions and diplomacy, two very powerful weapons which were working, albeit slowly, in Iraq, and two powerful weapons that eventually will prove far more powerful than trying to bomb a primitive idology out of existence.

PS - For those who want to understand the thinking of the Iranian people, I highly recommend this series of documentary programmes recently hosted by BBC Radio 4. I guarantee it will bring an added dimension of understanding to many issues now raging in Iraq and the Middle East.

Thanx Hillary - I will listen to them later on - prob next week.

See - I can be a reasonable soul, even if slightly conservative. Trust me - I will vote with common sense though - no single party ballot for me.

    Jeff
