Masturbation is a Gift From Jehovah (Stupid Awake 11/06)

I can see Metatron's point if people didn't have masturbation as a way to release sexual tension there would be a lot more pressure on unpaired individuals to fornicate or engage in deviant sex eg pederasty and homosexuality. This method in fact saves people like unwillingly celibate JWs a lot of trouble with what they consider to be gross sins.

An interesting poll would be to see how many Witnesses ever stopped based on the silly Awake articles about it.

My guess is that most people masturbate much more than one might think. If the figure is 98% for teenage boys - what do you think it is for adult men? Anyone know?

I don't know off-hand () but I should imagine it's low because most men, I presume, are in a relationship with a woman and so the need would be virtually nil. Of course, some men can't get regular sex with their woman, be it through illness or lack of interest, etc. I'm talking about in the main (and there are those who seek out prostitutes).

    Wasanelder Once:

My psychology instructor at the University stressed evolutionary psychology and adamantly declared that "of course rape is borne from sexual desire. Yes there can be a desire to dominate involved. Sexual desire is the reason so many who are fixated on pornography act on those urges and the natural drive to continue the species." He states also, "It is not based on a desire to dominate. It is driven by sexual desire whether that desire can be successfully accomplished or not. Violence is for the purpose of conquering the unwilling. That explanation of it being an act of violence is misguided." This in no way shifts the responsibility onto the victim.

He did not state this to excuse, only to explain. I thought it was interesting.

Excellent point. There seems to be a widespread refusal to acknowledge that rape has a lot to do with sexual desire. I'm not sure why this obvious and well-supported theory is so quickly and aggressively dismissed but it may have something to do with the belief that under_believer expressed: "Thinking it's a sexual outlet is going down the road of blaming the woman for her rape because she dressed too sexy." Of course it isn't. Explaining behaviour does not mean excusing it, but understanding a crime can help to prevent it.

It's hilarious how they've always condemned masturbation throughout the years. Only a totally out-of-touch organization would condemn that which every doctor and health scientist believes is healthy. 98% of boys masturbate. The other 2% are probably handicapped or something.

The other 2% are liars LOL.

I was really annoyed the first time I read the young people ask book as a teenager, my mum wanted to study it with me and when I realised there was like 2 or 3 whole chapters just devoted to how afwul and sinful masturbation was I was like no way! It was one of my favorite teenage hobbies and there was no way I was giving it up just because some silly book says so.

If Jehovah thought it was a terrible enough sin, then why is it not mentioned in the bible?

I know JWs use the scripture about Onan, but that was more to do with the fact he wouldnt raise up offspring for his brother rather than the fact he climaxed outwith the designated child conceiving area

I'm glad this was brought up because I was always under the impression that it did, indeed, have a lot to do with sexual desire. Let's face it, the guy's perpetrating such a heinous act have probably got an erection before even starting the rape! Overpowering the woman and then starting the rape likely turns them on even more.
