You may find this funny, but as a JW I never felt like my prayers were answered. When I stopped going to their meetings I was so angry that I stopped believing in God. It took me about 6 years to realise that I'm spiritual person and do better in all aspects of my life when I do have something bigger than me to believe in. In the last year my prayers get answered regularly. It's an amazing feeling to realise that you have asked for something and it gets given to you. Sometimes prayers are asnswered in very strange ways and only when you reflect on whats happened do you realise that it was indeed devine intervention.

I'll just give one example so you can see what I mean. My daughter has not been well for about 18 months. Nothing major just not well, the doctor I was seeing wasn't overly concerned so I thought I was just being a paraniod mom. About two months ago I decided to pray about it and asked God for help as I knew there was somthing wrong with my little one. The following week I received a letter from my doctor saying that they will no longer be able to see our family as he was no longer on the approved list of doctors that my medical scheme will pay for. The following week my daughter was once again not feeling very well and I found a new doctor and made an appointment. He took one look at her and told me that she needed to go for blood test cause he was not happy with what he saw. To cut a long story short we discovered that she has had a thyroid problem for almost two years. I feel it was devine intervention. She is now on medication and doing much better.

Don't give up on God just because the JW's let you down.

To say god answers prayers is not consistant. So the poor guy (A) in local X prays for the estentials of life - and does not get them while prayee (B) in local Z prays for whatever and has his prayer answered? What kind of nutty god would do that? I believe in god but if god cared so much about man then why will he not talk to man and why has he allowed this crap to go on for milleniums? Now the big kicker is, what if you find out christianity is a farce (as a thread of mine talks about), basically all religion is a farce, then what? Where are we now? If you cleave away the bible and religion and just believe in god, then what is going on? Were we made to die? Was man allowed to experience good and evil and god does not get involved? Interesting when you look at god outside of and removed from religion...

I think bikerchic is on to something. One might better ask why they seem to need a god who cares? (I note interestingly that you refer to God as a "that" rather than a "whom".)

We are all masters of our own destinies and are not in need of a 'god who cares'. Of course it would be nice to think that an omnipotent god could come and rescue the world from its woes but that doesn't seem to be on the cards does it?

I believe all will be revealed in time and when it is revealed, we will be thoroughly enlightened.

The god that i used to worship is not someone who i want to be associated with and i reject him/her/it absolutely. The god of the bible is utterly revolting. If one has a true and honest sense of justice, then the god of the bible cannot serve our interests, for he is NOT just.

That said, i do believe in eternity...but i'm not confused because i'm not particularly searching.

I also believe that we are here for a purpose but my ideas on these 'new' thoughts of mine are not totally structured at the moment.

    Peace

God certainly didn't care about the six million people who were murdered in the gas chambers.

FlyingHighNow: "Trust God. Let nothing disturb you. Let nothing frighten you. All things pass. God never changes."

I like the spirit of your prayer, so I've made a few changes to make to relevant to me:

"Trust the Tao. Let nothing disturb you. Let nothing frighten you. All things pass. The Tao never changes."

    Thank you.

Sometimes I wonder how God can see all the suffering and not put an end to it but then I remember that he did the same with his own son. I understand the reasons why, at least I think I do. So Jesus had to suffer without God's intervention so I guess we do too. I do get confused about it though and really angry at times. Oh I don't know...........

I have come to believe that we all long for a god that cares as we long for parents, family and friends who care. We even want strangers to care. I believe we are responsible for our lives. I also know there are going to be times when we need other worldly wisdom and something superhuman to intervene.

I personally feel that God appreciates all efforts to reach out to him and love him. I don't think he loves only Christians or Muslims or Buddhists, Hindus, etc. I don't think he requires that you join any religion. I don't believe the bible we have today is 100 % accurate or inspired.

Parakeet, when I started praying that prayer, which comes from St. Theresa (Andy's mother is Catholic), I called God The Great Spirit. I still call him that sometimes. And I believe God is complete with masculine and feminine qualities.

I believe people who are suffering will have their prayers answered eventually. It may not be the answer they dream up themselves, but they will get answers.

Andy pointed out to me that the German people allowed Hitler and the Nazis to come to power. (Enough of the people to matter anyway.) If we look at the blind trust they placed in him and the horrendous consequences and results, we can all learn a very powerful lesson. Adversity is painful, but if we always dodge it, we will not learn from it.

just musing..... wouldn't it be an odd world if God was always here babysitting us..?

My adult children sometimes do things that if I could I would do anything to stop them, but I know I can't interfere with their lives.

I can and do tell them what is right and what is wrong and how what they are doing ultimatly will cause them future pain. Do I not love them because I do not physicaly follow them around and try to force them to do right? They would have me commited.

There is evil, yes some great evil in the world. Evil and unforseen natural tragedies. Maybe they are allowed as wake up calls, or to stimulate humans to self sacrifice. Death is wretched sad but a fact of life. We will all die. So to me death is not always a tragedy, it is a passing from the physical to the spiritual.

God could be here babysitting us if He wanted...

but I think it would be wierd...
