From one call center person, to another, I would have loved to have received that call. It would have made my day!

I remember a rumor from the 60s that 'Tiger Shake' a chocolate drink mix, contained blood because it was iron fortafied.

Also remember being told not eat hot dogs and cold cuts that contained euthrobate ar euthroblast because 'they were made from blood'.

I remember worrying that some glue and fertilizers also had blood in them. We were told we could call the manufacturers to find out for sure. Extreme beliefs forsure.

WHY call the manufacturers? You weren't intending on EATING the glue and fertilizers, were you?

(BTW similar thing with a "brother" who was reluctant to use plywood... on account of the bloody glue.)

When I was first associating with the JWs in the mid-60s in Southern California the rumor was in our congregation that McDonalds had blood in their hamburgers. I still remember one friend telling me: "That's why they taste so good!" I was just a teenager and my folks weren't JWs and we often went to McDonalds. My folks never asked me why I suddenly started ordering fish filet sandwiches!

I'm sure the rumor was baseless but I still eat fish filet sandwiches on occasion.

just thought, maybe thats just what the elders tell their fat wives..

Thats a great diet trick for the JW...tell them Starbucks and Krispy Kreme now contain blood.

Abstaining from blood™ doesn't just mean ingesting it. My ELDER™ brother-in-law whose favourite past time is gardening gets really stressed about fertilisers, particualrly blood, fish and bone of course.

Otherwise when we were kids the big anathema was Walls ice cream which allegedly used blood as a colourant.

I remember the 'Kraft' foods fiasco. It was believed that the company, 'Kraft' regularly put blood products into their cheese slices and spreads. The cong I was at received a letter from the London Bethel advising caution with eating these things.

Also, the plant food 'Baby Bio' and 'Fish, blood and bone' were not to be used for gardens.

    Oh the craziness!

Yes Gill - I remember the warnings about what garden fertiliser to buy. Odd really. When you think about it. As blood is returned to the ground.
