So lola, what regimen have they suggested for her? I have an auto-immune disease, not lupus though.

How are her spirits and yours?

Blondie, I don't know how I feel, numb? I explained to her what it is and told her that we would do some research and look at what we are dealing with. Right now all she wants is to go home.

    Dear Lola

I have Lupus, also. It's great that your sister was diagnosed so quickly. It took 3 years for me to get a proper diagnosis and in the end I figured it out myself (nursing background helped) and told the doctor what I thought I had and please do the testing.

Nowadays, with better medication treatments, 95% of people with lupus lead normal lives. Since I have been on plaquenil (anti-malarial drug), I'm so much better and can do most things I did before. The only thing I have to be careful of is getting lots of rest and keeping my stress levels way down. (nursing was not helpful for this).

There are some great lupus info sites on the net where you can learn all about it. While I am sorry your sister is ill, I'm so happy to hear your sister has something very treatable.

hugs, (you are a great sister!)

I'm so glad they were able to find out so quickly what was going on with your sister. Like it was mentioned before, there are treatments now that really do work. And it may be trial and error, so don't get discouraged. I've taken care of alot of patients with lupus. Be strong, and let us know what we can do!!

HOORAY, Lola... thank goodness you now know what to deal with.

Several friends of mine have Lupus, they live very normal lives... I'm sure you'll find many here that can help you and Lil Sis with this. What a relief.

Hugs to you and Lil Sis.

    Lola,

I'm the king of not knowing what to say. :-( But I'm glad you at least know what you're dealing with now. I've been (silently, unsupportively) following your sister's saga.

I hope they are able to treat her and give her a normal life. It sounds as if that should be possible.

    Lola,

My mother had Lupus, and while it is true that lupus is very treatable to a small percentage of those diagnosed it can be very devistating. My mother lived with it for over 20 years. In her case it manifested itself in her joints causing pain and swelling. Medications helped but not completely. There is also a chance that the illness can internalize and start attacking internal organs. This is rare, but in such cases can be very serious. I don't tell you this to worry you, I'm hopefull that your sister will be fine (the odds are really in her favor), and I'm sure she will be. But I say it because I want you to be diligent in her care, as I know you will.

    Hopefull wishes,

    RV
