My daughter also just found out she has Lupus...she has had a lot of joint pain and lymph gland swelling plus other things. She is in her middle forties though.

    How old is your sister?..

I wonder how accurate the blood tests are?

Anyway..she has received medication..they want to do an ultra sound I guess to see if any organs are affected. I do know she has been sick a lot and had her thyroid partially removed and several swollen lymph glands.

Apparenty it attacks your immune system.

My daughter barely talks about it but does tell me her joints swell and hurt.

She is supposed to go back for some more tests...

We should compare medications...I'll ask her what she is taking. For some reason I am thinking it is prednesone? (sp?)

    Hugs..Snoozy

    lola,

I saw your other thread on your sister and I am sooooo relieved for you all that it isn't something terminal or greviously life threatening like leukemia! I don't know much about Lupus, I know its in a class of Auto-immune disorders like graves disease, but knowing and having that sure diagnosis will help you so much in the treatment and management of it. Thank goodness! I'm happy for you and your dear sister that it isn't something worse, although from her symptoms you described she probably falls on the more severe side of it I should think. I hope you all are able to treat it and she is able to feel better very soon!

From a fellow 22 yr. old female with younger siblings, I know how worried you must have felt.

God bless for your care and love for her.

Lola! i'm so glad they were able to diagnose her, now they can help her get better.. even though lupus isnt really a genetic disease that runs in familys (so they think) i have several family members with it. and once their physicians found the right balance of medications to treat it, they all are doing very well. in the cases of my family members, lupus seems to go dormant and they will occasionly have episodes where it flares up.. i dont know a lot about it, i suggest you research it online, learn what you can about the disease and its treatments. education by the family is a plus that will only help her as she gets older. hugs and continued prayers for her recovery of this episode.

This is good-Now Lupus is the devil you know. Since her Doc's were bright enough to diagnose her this quickly, hopefully they will treat her effectively. I know its hard, but its good to know what it is instead of fearing what it could be. She has now entered a new world. You will all be learing a lot and making adjustments. Its good to know there is so much love between you all-that will make all things easier to bear. . .Best wishes!

I'm sorry Lola, do they know yet which form of Lupus she has?

Sorry to hear that she has Lupus, but glad to know they found out what she has. She seems so very young to be diagnosed with this!!! What are the drs saying? Lupus reacts differently with people....some have flair-ups here and there and others have more severe issues. I hope she falls in the 1st category!!! One of the best things she can do is to keep from STRESSING....she really needs to learn coping techniques to learn not to sweat the small stuff and learn how to handle the major things without putting too much stress on her system.

Thank you for the update, Lo. Please let us know how she is doing. Did she go home? Have they told you her prognosis, etc? Hugs to an exceptional big sister.
