Someone went to a JW 'memorial' and realized that if the WT society version of a funeral was all that JWs are getting, there was NOTHING memorable about it. Nothing about the deceased. They realized that the only way a JW could have anything about THEM was to pay for it, cause the religion did not give a rats behind. SO, these people, who are paying attention, thought they could start an entreprenurial enterprise and perhaps make some money at it. Probably not JWs though, or they would understand the total lack of sentiment in the group. Doubt they are making any money at it, but I think I understand where the notion came from.
Did anybody else see this crazy stuff???

Actually, I think someone had a good, capitalistic society idea.
When a loved one dies, and a memorial service is held at the Kingdom Hall, there is almost no mention of the person who has died. Perhaps his or her picture is there, and the family members are named, but the entire "sermon" is on the lost loved one's hope for the future paradise earth. It is a public talk given to interest worldly relatives. Sin is the biggest part of the sermon-how we are all sinners and so must die. It almost ends with an "alter call" to any that may be listening to join the deceased one's faith and live in the new world.
I have always left any memorial service at a Kingdom Hall feeling less than satisfied. In many funerals of "worldly people" the families and friends get to get up and fondly recall some experiences they shared with the one who died. Personal information is shared.
Due to lack of remembrance of the person themselves, evidently some enterprising dub is looking to fill that gap. Clever.

Thats very interesting since the Society has always encouraged cremation without a real funeral service, thus taking away from loved ones grieving process and now there is this site to help those remember? Good lord, money making racket for sure.
Whats even more interesting is the fact that no where in the bible does it discuss anyone being creamated except criminals being burned! Even Jesus was not cremated according to the bible that is. His bible seemingly disppeared into thin air. And my question is, if God truly wanted to keep anyone from tampering with the body of Christ Jesus, why did God not say, cremate Him? It was only the criminals that were burned.

Maybe it is just cultural, but cremation has never been encouraged among JWs in the Midwest. My family history goes back to the 1920's on this.
*** w65 7/1 p. 416 Questions From Readers ***
Is cremation proper for Christians?
Christians can, therefore, consider local legal requirements as well as the sentiments of those in the community in deciding on this matter. (Phil. 1:10) Since Jehovah does not express disapproval of cremation in the Bible, it remains a matter for personal decision.
This same thought was repeated in 1976 and 1996.
My experience is that the older crowd still prefer burial as that is their custom. I have found that JWs in my age group and younger are seeing the economic wisdom of cremation. But I have not seen either cremation or burial a WTS policy but more what is common in the community.

Thats interesting to know Blondie! Thanks for sharing! It seems as though the Society has different rules for certain parts of the US, based on the laws within a particular state. Funny how on the forefront they try so hard to make it look as though they're outstanding citizens obeying the laws of the land as the bile seemingly says to do, but I am wondering why they continue to ignore the one that Jesus stated regarding taxes, where it says to pay back ceasars things to cesar, etc.
Where I grew up, they always taught that cremation is the only was to go. But cremation does not give the loved ones time to greive, which is a process they need! Thats just my opinion, not to say it is correct. Would you mind if I barrow your post, Blondie? Thanks for posting that!

Where do you get your information? I have never heard of the Society encouraging cremation. This is why information taken from a forum is not always a good thing. According to you the Society encourages cremation. Well, they forgot to mention it to my family when I had family members die, that we were supposed to cremate them. Even if its encouraged like you say it is, this is basically a personal decision. Why the hell would you listen to the Society on this. Oh I forgot, almost everyone here did as they were told even to the most minute detail.
This to me is an example of a personal view from possibly an elder or someone else and being passed around as something mentioned by the society.

This site will permit those who have lost a loved one to easily design a Private Memorial on line to be shared with family and friends from any location in the world. The content with photographs you select can be easily modified at any time.
Um, isn't that a bit like eulogizing the deceased? (Gasp!)
