Someone had told me that when I "was ready" to attend a non-denominatinal church like the UU. The only trouble IS that I live in a village 40 miles from a big city where this church is found!

The lady that brought me to the WNFJ convention, goes to a small church near here and I asked her how many regularly attend her church----she said about 25 people! It sounds like my old bookstudy, LOL! But she invited me to go with her any Sunday I wish to.....and I may just DO that!

She also told me she has gone there for years (along with her hubby and teen-aged daughter)----but does not feel the need to "officially join" it. She said God doesn't need or require her name on any church membership books, and so far nobody has pestered her about this!

    I liked her thinking.

Wouldn't it be best to ask which church teaches the truth

I don't know there really ius one absolute truth. Satifying our need for spiritual connection doesn't mean that we have to believe every word a religion teaches.

What if the many roads are all the various religions but the single path is what lies within us?

Lee beat me to it. I agree. As Dubs we were indoctrinated with the concept of a choice between "true religion" and "false religion" like there is a secret code to finding out. Now I look for the spirituality, the "fruits" of kindness, comfort, acceptance, tolerance, hope and love.

Funny.....I never thought of it quite that way.....but you are absolutely right!

Now I look for the spirituality, the "fruits" of kindness, comfort, acceptance, tolerance, hope and love.

I always thought this was what we had AS JWs....something "the rest of the world" did not display or demonstrate, or so we were told. We now find how much MORE tolerant and nonjudgmental most of the world actually IS---now that we have removed the WTS blinders from our eyes, and can appreciate all others for who they ARE and not what religion they happen to belong to!

I found I was looking for a group that is somewhat social, cares about its members and promotes good moral decision making, learning how to be happy and finding your place in the world.

The Buddhists were ok, but don't forget non-religious groups such as Atheist societies and The Secular Humanists and the Brights. These groups provide upbuilding moral and social support without subscribing to an imaginary superhero in the sky. ('cept for the Buddhists, they are pretty religious).

I like the big church idea. I agree the congregants in the little churches can glom on you pretty tight. Feels a LITTLE TOO MUCH like love-bombing. Also consider,

House churches http://housechurch.org/ (except this flies in the face of "large")

I also like the reminder that you can WALK AWAY ANY TIME without consequence. Remember that. It's your life now.

    "Why are we so mad?"

Because we made a lot of life changing decisions based on a false religion. This is something that we didn't take lightly, and we will try to make sure that this never happens again.

Someone sent me this poem by Maya Angelou

    Christians - By Maya Angelou

    When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin'."
    I'm whispering "I was lost,
    Now I'm found and forgiven."

    When I say... "I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride.
    I'm confessing that I stumble
and need Christ to be my guide.

    When I say... "I am a
    Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong.
    I'm professing that I'm weak
And need His strength to carry on.

    When I say... "I am a Christian"
    I'm not bragging of success.
    I'm admitting I have failed
And need God to clean my mess.

    When I say... "I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect,
My flaws are far too visible
But, God believes I am worth it.

    When I say... "I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain.
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon His name.

    When I say... "I am a Christian"
    I'm not holier than thou,
    I'm just a simple sinner
Who received God's good grace, somehow!

You're better off than I am, because I don't know what I believe in any more.

"In little churches, I have found, they glom onto new people quickly and firmly, and personally it freaked me out really bad after being a JW. "Have you found a CHURCH HOME yet SISTER???" the pastor says....not letting go of my hand..."

    dear LovesDubs...

this reminds me of a joke I read yesterday...

T3hese three "sisters" were sitting having a cup of tea and one asked the others casually, "How is attendance at your church?"

the one said, 'Well...attendance sits at about 30-40 every Sunday."

the other one said, "Well...we have about 20-30 in attendance every Sunday...numbers are definately down."

then the two asked the first sister about her church..."Well...", she said, "When the Pastor starts the sermon: Dearly Beloved...I blush!"

    Isn't that cute?

    love michelle
