I found this and thought it may be useful to some, also, check the responses, one is from a JW ex-Gynecologist:

Very Interesting!
50% will accept some kind of blood or blood product.
Over 9% will accept a blood transfusion if push comes to shove!
And a massive 44% increase in the mortality rate of JW women! That's something you don't read the WTBTS boasting about. I wonder why?
CONCLUSION:This review refutes the commonly held belief thatall Jehovah's Witnesses refuse to accept blood or any of itsproducts. In this population of pregnant women, the majoritywere willing to accept some form of blood or blood products. This information can be used to help health care providers counsela patient when she is initially faced with considering theseissues and may help to remove the stigma of accepting one ofthe options.
I was thinking how the medical field needs to be kept up-to-date with the changing doctrone of JW's. How confusing.

if i read it correctly one jw died. 1 out of 61 is pretty bad odds.
The knowledgethat about 50% of patients in this series agreed to accept bloodor some blood products may be of value to physicians in counselingother women who will soon undergo labor and delivery and mayassist those patients in making their decisions. This reviewis not meant to coerce any patient's decision, but it may helpput some women at ease when they feel that they are deviatingfrom their belief system. Such a patient is not alone in thiscircumstance, and that knowledge may make the difference betweenlife and death when an unexpected hemorrhage occurs.
We've always known that many JW's will choose LIFE...when they can do it privately...out of the peering eyes of the elders and brain-dead relatives. This study is incredibly important, because it shows for the very first time that a little over 1/2 of these women are NOT hardcore believers.
My Mom died over this issue, while surrounded by elders, HLC and staunch JW relatives. This study should que the Doctors than read it to make sure they have a one-on-one conversation with JW's, before surgery.
If this percentage holds for all JW's, damn...1/2 of all JW's could just be "giving lip-service" to mother Watchtower. THAT is really good news.
I am also surprised that this is the very first study like this. Now...they need to expand this study to find out the death rates from transfusion refusals and what % of all JW's actually accept blood.

Obstetric hemorrhage is not infrequent. Approximately 2% of women who present to a labor and delivery floor will require a blood transfusion,4 and as previously stated, this can lead to a 44-fold increased risk of maternal mortality if the patient refuses all transfusion therapy.
Wow.
I believe I have a hard copy of this article around here somewhere. My last boss was a gyn oncologist and saved it for me. Yes, bizarrely, it is right here on my desk, a bit wrinkled.

Yes, I personally know of some who have expressed that if they were in a severe situation that they would consider allowing blood. One I knew was a nurse and even though she'd made it clear on other occassions that she would not accept blood, when she was scheduled for a major procedure she secretly spoke with the physician and stated that she did not her children to lose their mother, so if it were needed she would accept blood.....but they would need to be discreet and not discuss it with anyone, not even her husband. One person I knew stated that if their child seriously required blood that she secretly hoped that the State would step in and take the responsibility for giving the transfusion. That way she would feel better that all was done to help her child and she wouldn't have to be punished by the congregation as the decision was out of her hands.
