Having come across many many lies in the borg, especially from the body of elders that made me constantly confront them.

Under the mosaic law they cast" Lots" and presumably god provided the answer,we don't have that system now, so why can't they use" Lie detectors", to find the guilty ones,

how many I wonder would still be in office.

Fantastic idea. They should have a Trisha special and televise it too, then the whole country will see the liars on tape instead of a selected few.

I do not understand why elders lie so much about almost everything that they handle, they have greater access to 'the rules' and therefore know the final consequences of their lies.

How many of you have read their latest publication, "Living with Jehovah's Day in Mind"?

It is so clear there, that they have to tell the truth, why don't they? what will they finally achieve?

I will revive this thread about lies

From the chapter: "Dealing With Others as God Desires" in the new book "Live With Jehovah’s Day In Mind" released at this year's (2006) District Conventions.

‘How would God evaluate the way I deal with my brothers?’

One area of concern is how we view and treat a brother when things have not gone smoothly.

God desires that we be truthful in our dealings.

We must be honest in formal situations, but we are also urged: "Speak truthfully with one another." That includes in the privacy of our home when speaking with our marriage mate or close relatives. It also applies to our everyday conversations with spiritual brothers and sisters, whether we are speaking face-to-face, talking on the telephone, or communicating in another way. They have every reason to expect that what we are saying is the truth.

JWs have always justified lying in certain circumstances. This link gives a few examples as to why this is acceptable, to them anyway: http://www.quotes-watchtower.co.uk/lie.html

Here's an example from that section of Quotes, and there are plenty more:

Watchtower 1960 June 1 p.351 Questions from Readers

    Questions from Readers

    • From time to time letters are received asking whether a certain circumstance would justify making an exception to the Christian's obligation to tell the truth. In reply to these the following is given:

God's Word commands: "Speak truth each of you with his neighbor." (Eph. 4:25) This command, however, does not mean that we should tell everyone who asks us all he wants to know. We must tell the truth to one who is entitled to know, but if one is not so entitled we may be evasive[…] As a soldier of Christ he is in theocratic warfare and he must exercise added caution when dealing with God's foes. Thus the Scriptures show that for the purpose of protecting the interests of God's cause, it is proper to hide the truth from God's enemies.

Re: Lies WT 1960 .............but if one is not so entitled, we may be evasive

If we are to accept this thinking, regarding being evasive, what part of their message, (that they constantly gave to the Rank & File) was truth and what part was lies?

The dictionary definition of a lie is - "the INTENTION to deceive"

Kaytee, right now I'm struggling to think of any of their core message that is actually true. It was designed to be appealing, which it was, and draw people to the wts, which it did, but that doesn't make it true, merely attractive.

We fell for that beautiful picture that they presented, after that they applied the Fear Factor,.

It's like reaching out for the rose, only to be pricked by the thorn.
