Elders with STRONG personalities....

There is an elder in my congregation that has a very strong personality. He drove VolksWagens and many bought the same make as he did. We had another elder back then that drove a dodge Aries and another elder who had a Peugeot garage and he sold so many second hand Peugeots to members of the congregation. There was a time that there were about 10 volkswagens, 8 Airies, and 5 Peugeots inthe kindom hall parking.

It's as if these elders are seen like leaders and they are to be imitated.

That elder with a strong personality that I'm thinking of right now always seemed to have it his way. He had to have the last word. He was the one with the best idea. He was autoritative and people seemed as if they didn't want to displease him in any way.

    That just bugged me.

Man, I feel sorry for the ones that had the Dodge Airies!

I remember one that drove all the other elders that could switch halls to do so. If we had a "get together", he would always be so highly competitive that he would YELL at little kids for missing a volleyball....in a nice family challenge! He would also say to you when he had you in the "back room" Now...this is just what I feel you should do, but I believe I have Jehovah's holy spirit.

Those are the ones I usually butted heads with. They would make the mistake of trying to counsel or berate me in front of others, sometimes in front of the entire book study, and it always backfired on them, and they'd end up looking like idiots. They rely on their forceful personalities to make their points, and often neglect to have facts to back themselves up.

We had somebody with a strong personality like that years back. An arrogant brother who thought he was "lordly" in some way. When he conducted a book study he would go over time. He was not concerned what anybody thought about him.

An Elder driving a car named after an astrological sign???.... Was he, perhap's implying that he was of the sheep (ram) class?

Actually, most of the zealous dubs that I knew would have rearranged the letters on the trunk to read "ARISE" or "RAISE" instaed or "ARIES"

One time, my Mom and Dad met with the elders regarding how to treat me as a DF person...and my Mom told one of them that the congregation was shunning the whole family since I was DF. And he told them, "well, we will talk to you, and as soon as the cong sees us talking to you, they willl too, they follow us like little puppy dogs".

Shows how high and mighty they think their position is, that they can sway a whole group people like that.

I know you won't believe this but I swear it is true. We had an "anointed" elder with such a strong personality that other elders would backup and "enforce" a lot of the things he revelied to the cong.

One of the revelations of the son of God was that it is unscriptural to own/drive a Taurus because it is zodiac signs. His resopnce to anyone questioning this be to ask - "Why do you think it is the best selling car in the country?", My responce was ,"Great style, good milage, lots of room, and great reliability and fair priced" His anwser - "No it's Satan's influence" There were some other brothers who had Taurus' and one elder who had an Aires so the all put black electrical or duct tape over the names of their cars "As not to stumble anyone."

Actually, as a former window washer, I can assure you most of us felt that window washing was above lawn care or floor maintenance. Our reasoning was that windows are, usually, somewhere above lawns and floors in a physical sense.
