    Sunspot,

Catholic charities made me change my view too. My sister who is developmentally delayed and lived in NY at the time needed some assistance with rides to/from the doctor after surgery. No one would help her except Catholic charities and like you said they never once asked her if she was a Catholic or not. Yeah for Catholic Charities!

Since leaving the borg. I have donated to many of their charitable organizations. Although I am not Catholic I accept them as my Christian kin. I also donate to my local hospital so that those who cannot afford it (like that JW guy) can get free care. Wonder if he knows some apostates may have helped paid for his care? Lilly

I think that is the point, does he appreciate that false religion and apostates have contributed?

I knew a witness lady that always donated to the Salvation Army as they helped her family when she was a kid with an alcoholic father. She was an exception.

I would imagine he would think that in some way he deserves, Restrangled see if your mum can find out more information, she did not sound that impressed so she may be happy to dig further.

What is nasty is that if he did have spare cash he would not donate as that is supporting false religion.

My understanding of health insurance in the states is that it is more or less compulsory, why are witnesses not getting health insurance if they can afford it? My understanding is you are screwed without it. Does not the bible speak about not knowing what can befall us? Also the education thing that seemed far more 'right wing' then anything in Australia. Is that becasue you live on Campus wheras most college kids in Australia are still at home?

And let me just say this (at the risk of bringing every nut-bar who has a thing about Russell and the Masons out of the bottom of their litter box) -

The Scottish Rite (some would call Shriners) have a wonderful program for children suffering from major burns. They do not discriminate by race, creed, or color. They just help kids. Their hospitals for burn victims are considered to be some of the best in the world.

Specifically, from my point of view, they helped a family who had a very pretty little 6-year-old girl who was burned head to waist in a house fire. It took multiple operations up until the time she was about 18, but she can now have a normal life thanks to their kindness.

The fire got started because mom & dad were living in a frame house, toked up on the weed, and had about 237 incense candles burning all about the place. She tried to go back in to save her dolls when it blew out the screen door. Nobody had the presence of mind to stop her.

The Shriners did not care who it was or what the cause - they just helped that little girl.

Maybe both Witnesses and some of us Ex-Witnesses need to look at the rest of the world and find some good out there before passing so much judgement on everybody else.

She just had to vent about some "brother" in her car group this week. He had been in the hospital and racked up a $25,000.00 bill but had no insurance to pay for it. Apparently some local charity stepped in and paid the bill for him. A week after he got out, he shows up at the hall with a brand new SUV (2006). Mom asked, "How in the world he could afford a new SUV but not the hospital bill?" He smiled and said, "Jehovah as really blessed me."

I wonder if your local newspaper and all it's readers would view the above scenario as a "blessing from Jehovah". Perhaps you should give them this story. If anything, it would prove highly embarassing that a Jehovah's Witness accepted charity from False Religion/Satan's Organization in the midst of distributing a tract telling them that they're all shortly going to be destroyed.

Amazing said: Once the hospital bill is paid, there is no obligation for this man to then start paying the charity. He may have been in an accident, hence in the hospital. If an accident that was the fault of another driver, he may have recceived an insurance settlement to buy a replacement vehicle.

If he was in an accident and it was the other guy's fault, wouldn't the other guys insurance pay for his medical bills?

Amazing is right. We don't know the whole story. However, the "Jehovah has blessed me" part boils my blood. I have heard it all my life and it has always irked me because it implys that those whose problems don't get solved are not blessed. What makes those who get a blessing more worthy that others

And on the other hand when something bad happens, they blame Satan. Nothing bad is ever their fault. Nothing good is never the product of intelligence or hard work. And "time and unforseen occurance" gets swept under the rug.

My mom definately said he had gotten ill so there is no excuse for a new SUV funded by insurance. Also she said he had to sign a bunch of papers to receive the charity, so it does sound like it might be a Catholic affiliated or perhaps another religion.

In addition, if he received a car loan, couldn't he have been making payments towards his own hospital bill and gone with a more,... to use a JW term, "modest" vehicle and also a used vehicle for that matter.

Why didn't members in the hall contribute towards his bill if he was so destitute?

Last but not least, I think it takes a helluva lot of nerve to be accepting charity from the very religion you are now distributing tracks about using your new vehicle to deliver that message and claiming God has blessed you!

The whole thing reeks in my opinion and I will try and delicately get the details without revealing to my mom my intentions of turning him in.

What an ass wipe!!!!!!!! I was in the hospital with over a 100K worth of bills. I do have insurance but I still owed a hefty co pay. Did I shirk it or BEG from some charity? No! I made arrangements with the hospital who reduced my bill slightly and offered me a monthly payment plan with no interest. So the hospitals DO work with you. What a worthless piece of SHIT!!!!!!!!!!
