Do Your Medical Records Still Say That You Are A Jehovah's Witness?

I raise the question because mine did - until Thursday that is.

A routine follow up review appointment was my opportunity to place a 'Living Will" in my records . The Doctor said "You are a Jehovahs Witness aren't you"

"Not any more" - I said

The bold notation had been helpfully put on the record some years back, so that in event of an accident my wishes on blood would have been made clear. it seemed a good idea at the time. Anyway it has been corrected now . I included in the 'Living Will' a statement to the effect that if I should be unconscious my wife may not be able to agree to a blood transfusion , but it was my wish to have one if the doctors believed it to be necessary to preserve life.

So .. I would not like to be held as a martyr for a cause that I no longer follow...I am glad that I got it changed

lol.. I suppose back in Minnesota with my old dr before I moved it does.. and if I ever went back I'd want him again..

I'll have to remember to have that pulled from my file if I do..

But here in Cali.. naaah.. not sure I ever told them when I was still a dub and lived here.

I had the "jehovah's witness" label removed from my medical records about 1 1/2 years ago.

I decided to write to my doctor a couple of months ago now and tell her that myself and my children would have blood and to erase the fact that we were jws - but i was shaking while i did it and it took me several weeks to post it but i'm glad i did. I didn't include my husband cos thats up to him, i asked if he minded me including the children and his reply was 'haven't much choice, you'll do it anyway' so i did!I was shocked though when i told a jw friend and she said that was no big deal and she had'nt even told her dr in the first place!I guess shes not 100% sure herself though won't admit it!

Something similar happened when my wife registered our son for school. The secretary said:"Ah, you are a Jehovah's WItness." My was shocked she was not aware this was still in his birth certificate. My wife said:"No, we have left." - "you can leave there?" We learnt that there a some JW with kids in our small town.

I changed that in my medical records at the beginning of this year. Hopefully it will never happen of course, but if it did I certainly don't want anyone other than Trev and the hospital making a decision that might affect whether I live or die, and I definitely don't want any jw involved.

They did for about a week after I punched the ejection button and escaped from the WITCHTOWER BABBLE and TRICK SYCHOPATHS.

something happened to me a few weeks ago, i was in ER for an unusual affliction, i rarely ever go to doctors, less the er

so they do an IV, then another, so i say, why the 2nd iv

they said for blood,,i said,,,'what if i dont want any blood'

and the nurse stopped and looked at me and said''what?'

    then i said''oh never mind'

i was still in the jw mindset

Blues Brother - this is interesting. I presume you are in the UK like me, but my doctor said GPs records are unlikely to be pulled in the event of emergency treatment and anyhow, there is nothing obvious on my file. Anything in the text of my records cannot be deleted (such as the fact that at one time I was a Jehovah's Witness)... in short they told me forget it.

    Ballistic,

Yes this was a UK , GP (General Practitioner) with whom I am registered. He took it seriously, amended the G P records and said he would keep the document in the record and have scanned onto the database. I understand that hospitals would want the records to see if there were any allergies etc that could affect what they may do.
