It is certainly of important cult (inculcating) value for the wts to keep the 'flock' from meaningful socialising with their own family if they are not jw. These are typically the times when ills are forgotten, and dialogue and good will promoted - can't have that if you intend to keep a cult member.
Regarding wedding anniversaries, are the 'mixed' marriages celebrated in the ferver of the all jw ones ?

I love November 8th..."I hate to Cook" day.
I celebrate that every Friday night...we call it "Fend night", everyone finds something to eat, from the leftovers all week. Or, we just order a pizza, or Chinese take out.

When I pointed out this scripture to an elder in defense of Mother's Day, you got 3 guesses as to what happened next:
- He thanked me profusely for bringing that scripture to his attention and announced from the platform that this celebration was okay;
- He helped pick out flowers for my mother
- I got my ass hauled in the backroom for a chat to "readjust my thinking".
