Nice try supporting my point, Arkangel. One thing that you are going to find here is that anyone who is a believer will face constant critisism from many of the new atheist recruits, led by people like Alan F., Julie, Kent, etc.
They have an agenda that goes much beyond getting JWs to leave their religion, they pounce on anyone of faith unless it is some lukewarm faith that encompasses New Age and/or Buddhist crapola. If you stand on a principal you will not have a chance to 'win' unless you spend hours writing post after post.
Take Alan for example, he has a long-winded post filled with his own ideas, supported by the best atheist scholars, the only ones he respects. I hope he did spend hours putting it together because then I really enjoy ignoring it!

Jojon,
Read the economics section of the post and also consider the relative aspects of the Israelites as compared to the other nations around them.

Arkangel,
Rex just lied to you, as is his wont. There is no agenda -- this is a discussion board, and ideas are discussed. And believers are not bothered here unless, like Rex, they push an agenda on others in a way that can so easily be refuted by facts that everyone comes out of the woodwork to have a crack at him. Rex then claims it's a conspiracy against him, when it's just people having fun with someone who left the WTS and wound up with another organization just as closed-minded.

Hey Alan,
Comparisons.
In case you hadn't noticed, my post showed the improvements of the Mosaic Law to other laws of the time. You did nothing to refute that point. All of the other blather is your own view of stricly Israelite law. It is admitted that women were also viewed as property in a Paternalistic society. The reasons for this were well explained and I'm not going to post them again, right now.
Unfortunately, desert bedouins lived in the real world in an age of barbarism. They didn't live in the age of comfort, in a land of plenty and in a advanced civilization that can afford creature comforts and enlightened views.
How quickly humanity would return to the laws practical for that age with the ONE BIG EVENT that could occur by several means? What is the lesson of history in tribal or backward societies? In a man against nature & animal world, things are vastly different.
All of your whining about the Mosaic Law and Israel's history only shows your lack of understanding that the events of 3000 years ago bare little resembelance to our age.
Of course, coming from someone who doesn't understand that the Abraham/Isaac story is a 'type' of Christ's sacrifice (for us) and not a passage speaking to the 'omni' abilities of God, I really expected nothing anyways.

Sorry, Arkangel, I forgot to mention 'S(n)eeker'.
He is another JW elder who now consider's himself 'enlightened'. He still believes the slander about 'Babylon the Grape' (LOL) that his old religion preaches.
The gang here keeps in touch by e-mail and is predicatable in their response to any post that post's positive light on Christianity. They all let it go for a couple days when they saw the generosity of Christians in America. They're back on top of it now.
Hey Seeker, you getting nervous about the world conditions yet? Maybe you all better run back to momma before she closes the door on y'all?

Rex,
you wrote,
:anyone who is a believer will face constant critisism
Please don't be paranoid, Rex. I have read and commented favorably on some of your posts, even though I don't agree with everything you say--especially this attempt to excuse the bible's view of women. I simply will not even channel energy to address it. I am not going to change your mind about women, and you will not change my mind.
You run into criticism, when you try to enforce your beliefs on people. You're so terribly afraid of the freethought expressed here by some of the posters. You express over and over again, a fear that those who leave will be swept off into freethought. There's no doubt in my mind that you believe those who think and question freely in such a manner, and ascend past the belief in biblegod will burn in hell. So, I believe you have somewhat good intentions, but believe me, they are misplaced. You must trust me in this. First of all Rex, those who need to follow your path, will. Period. Some still need this very restrictive path. Those who need freethought, would do your movement no good in the longrun. You probably do not understand my words here. I mean you no harm. You are free to believe what you wish. No one's going to try to stop you (accept maybe other fundamentalists, on opposite poles from you like fundamentalist Muslims).
Peace,
Bridgette
"I want you to just let a wave of intolerance wash over you. I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you. Yes, hate is good... Our goal is a Christian nation. We have a Biblical duty, we are called by God, to conquer this country. We don't want equal time. We don't want pluralism."-Randall Terry, Founder of Operation Rescue

Sorry, Arkangel, I forgot to mention 'S(n)eeker'.
Congratulations, Rex, you just sunk to You Know's level. The rest of my response will demonstrate that what I said is true: Rex says things that aren't right:
He is another JW elder who now consider's himself 'enlightened'. He still believes the slander about 'Babylon the Grape' (LOL) that his old religion preaches.
I do not believe what the WTS says about other religions. As I examined other religions, I realized the WTS had slanted and false views of them just as they do of blood. I've told this to Rex before, but because I do not believe the way he does he tells this lie about my anyway.
The gang here keeps in touch by e-mail and is predicatable in their response to any post that post's positive light on Christianity.
Another false statement. I haven't emailed Alan or Kent in a long time, and we don't coordinate our activities. Rex seems to think that if two people agree on a subject, it means they have conspired together. It never occurs to him that everyone disagrees with his views because they are just wrong.
They all let it go for a couple days when they saw the generosity of Christians in America. They're back on top of it now.
No, we were busy helping out and didn't have time for your nonsense. Now we do.
Hey Seeker, you getting nervous about the world conditions yet? Maybe you all better run back to momma before she closes the door on y'all?
Why would I be nervous? I live in New York and I'm not nervous. I most certainly don't expect any Biblical developements to take place. You live your life in fear, if you wish. I have no need for fear.
See what I mean? Rex was 100% wrong about me, yet was willing to say these untrue things publicly. Remember that when he posts.

Poor little baby brained Rexie. I guess I've proved to be a prophet with this prediction:
As with all substantive responses to your merde, your response to the above will be nil.
You claim that my post was filled merely with my ideas, or those of atheist scholars, but this is a mere claim. You certainly didn't answer my post. Why? The reason is clear: my post was actually filled with references to many, many scriptures that disprove the misinterpretations of your Southern Baptist handlers. The only way you people can maintain your unsupported claims in your own minds is to strictly avoid actually examining Bible passages, such as by quoting them and their context in full. While I showed how each and every one of your handler's interpretations was wrong, by showing what the Bible actually says, you failed to consider a single scripture I used to prove my point.
This kind of cowardice is typical also of Jehovah's Witnesses who are confronted with material from the Bible or their own literature that they know disproves a cherished belief, or proves that the Watchtower Society is in error. Who on this board has not had the experience of trying to show some Bible or WTS literature passage to a JW and having the JW refuse even to look at the Bible or the piece of literature? From the least R&F member to the very top leaders, all of them behave the same.
So it is with baby brained Fundies like Rexie and his Southern Baptist Big Brothers. None of them can stand up to serious criticism of their ridiculous ideas, and they know it. That's why they always run from actual discussions and resort to name calling. They're all emotional infants and their behavior proves it. They can successfuly preach to the choir but to no one else.

***********************California Sunshine, Moxy, Tina (who quotes single scripture ideas of her own, not based on reality), JoJon and Julien seem to be all equally stupified and lost for anything substantial.
Take some time to study your subject instead of just making knee-jerk, follow the leader comments. I know that is not easy after being followers all of your life and hearing constant slander of those who preach the gospel****************************Equally stupified?
Lost for anything substancial?
Gee Rexy, did we make you Mad?
I would get mad back at you but I'm to busy right now laughing my A__ off.
A follower all my life?
I haven't been in the borg for 25 years. I haven't been part of any religion in all that time. Religion is "MAN" made.
I repeat...The Bible is a historical document written by "MEN"
