I haven't posted here in ages and was checking back to see whats going on. I read your story and am so happy for you. You are free. It sounds like you have some pain to deal with but life will get better and does the longer your gone from the Tower. I started college after leaving, my jobs better and I am so much happier. I think it comes down to having much more self respect and dignity. I always knew things weren't quite right in the WT but is only now that I am gone that I see how that affected me. It is amazing how little thoughts of how wrong they are continue to occur to me.

    Good luck with everything.

    Dear Renee,

Anyone not ever having dealings with this religion would find your story hard to believe in this day and age. I DON'T FOR A MINUTE!

You have amazing strength and determination.

I am a 3rd generation witness with an upbringing much like yours. All the extended family being witnesses and entire social circle. You honestly left me with my mouth hanging open, and once again painfully aware of how wicked this religion really is.

I am sending you my best wishes for a happy future and thanks for sharing your story.....WELCOME TO THE FORUM!

    Renee,

I have just thought of one more thing. If you paid those elders by check for the Katrina work I would call your State Attorney's office or insurance company. That was volunteer work, and they collected money. Guaranteed the society or your local KH wrote it off as volunteering. You also might want to call the IRS......what happened is totally unethical and might get them into a lot of hot water, including the circumstances it was collected under. That was just down right dirty business and they should be called on it.

No, no, no. Your story was not long! I think you showed great restraint in the way you told it,as I am sure there must be some thoughts towards the men on the JC that you could have included. That is what really gets me about committees such as these. You were publicly reproved for your conduct, yet that was not enough. You needed further humiliation, not help, it seems.

Also, to demand money to reimburse "voluntary" work done is the pits. Did they ask you to agree to pay before they did the work? Did they ask your grandma?

Also, what did your family say when they found out that these men demanded payment for the work? Were they in agreement? How do things stand now with you and your family?

I grew up in Mississippi. The bastian of Southern Baptists. I have seen some things there, also.

Thanks for your story. I am glad you are finding happiness now.

Yes, I also agree with the poster's comment that this was reimbusement for work done, not volunteer service. You certainly could get them some way, as they were seemingly operating a business if they demanded payment. Perhaps the IRS would like to know how many others they demanded payment from. Interesting possibilities.........

I found a distant family member who was also an apostate and we were able to talk and he helped me emotionally. He helped me grow into a Christian. I found a church home and I am busy there. It has been less than a year since my disassociation from the WatchTower society. It has been the best year of my life.

Wow, and it wasn't that long ago. You've grown a great deal. With your character and your education, you will go far. Now that the millstone is removed from your neck.

    Renee,

Great accounting of yourself. You are a real class individual.

They had no right to ask you for the money back, but it did make a snapshot for Jehovah to look at. I don't think they will look very good in the picture.

I have spent tens of thousands of dollars on the KH projects, went on them since the 1960's. I wish they would have reimbursed be a couple of hundred thousand dollars.

What a bunch of jerks. We really are all blessed by not being there any longer.

    Take care.
