Kinda shocked no one else started a thread on this, unless I missed it. Surely we cannot pass up this opportunity to dis Scientology and misogynists, now can we?

One of many of the same news stories: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/entertainment/4336437.html

    Highlights:

In the old-fashioned language that marks the Traditional version, the groom is reminded that "girls" need "clothes and food and tender happiness and frills, a pan, a comb, perhaps a cat" -- and is asked to provide them all.

The bride, in turn, is told that "young men are free and may forget" their promises.

Plus there is mention of a rule requiring the groom to be called a man while the bride is called a girl.

My understanding is the ceremonies follow a script written by Hubbard. I spent an embarassingly long amount of time today trying to find the full ceremony transcript online (embarassing that I am fascinated by this enough to bother, ha). The above is pretty much it. I started a thread on the ex-Scientology forum at www.factnet.org to see if anyone had it. Otherwise you have to buy Hubbard's $75 book.

Curious what other stuff is done during their ceremonies.

Onw thing I have noticed when it comes to religion that are off the wall things that promise extra ordinary outcomes, it that they are very expensive to learn about, as it is all in book or siminar form with lots of money needed to buy, learn and advance enough to get anything. I heard that is why Tom Cruise was so upset with South Park, was that they told things about the religion, that normally cost $1000 of dollars to get too. It was like getting something for free, when they make millions a year off of it.

    Rebel8,

I read that Tom and Katie's wedding is not valid in Italy, where they were married in a Scientology ceremony. Italy refuses to recognize the cult of Scientology. So, they will have to formally get married elsewhere. Cheers Tommy Boy and Katie Woman, or was that Tom Man and Katie Girl? !

Apparently the Scientologists are not opposed to divorce and re-marriage. What role models--not! I suppose Nicole Kidman was not into the religion as Tom is--creating incompatibility and "justifying" divorce. I wonder how Katie will match up.

Well, their baby is adorable. Maybe they pick and choose what they want from the beliefs. Not all religions are all or nothing. Judging from her jewelry and shopping sprees, she'll probably get more than a cat and a comb. They seem happy.

LOL! I have clothes, food, tender happiness, frills, a pan, a comb AND a cat. His name is Lassie.

Guess that makes me a "girl" in Scientology circles?

And I didn't have to marry Tom Cruise to get them? YAY!

I sure hope they don't get as much air time when they divorce, but whatever sells mags........

It is a joyous affair," said Church of Scientology spokeswoman Karin Pouw.

It always makes me laugh how religious people feel the need to explain this kind of thing. Like, what wedding ISNT supposed to be joyous???.

And what a frickin' stoopid word. Joyous. Its not what a normal person would say.

"Hey Norm, how was that wedding?"

"Oh you know. It was joyous"

    WTF.
