    JW Freak,

Congrats. You're not a coward. Your reasons for resigning a voluntary postion should not be of concern to anyone. So, don't feel bad about giving them the stress/depression reason. It's probably true anyway. I know it is for me and I've been playing that card for several months now to set the stage (probably will be doing the same thing next month).

Of course, the sec will be call the PO who will in turn set up a meeting with you & the entire BOE. Stay the course with the stress depression reason. I'm sure most of them will be able to relate. Tell them you can't be of encouragement to the friends the way a good shepherd should because of the depression and therefore its the "right" thing to do to step down.

I really think if you go out the nonconfrontational way, they won't pressure you as much.

JW Freak, think about it as 'theocratic strategy".

I've gone through your other posts but haven't seen you post much about you.

Not to try and push an issue, but I don't normally see Elders post a few (somewhat sarcastic) comments on this board about the org and then all of a sudden announce that they are stepping down without talking about themselves and the organization at all.

Just interested in knowing more about your expierance (if you open to sharing).

Well done ! the first step on a long road that gets brighter and brighter..

In my experience the body did not want to lose a willing member. I had to be persistent . I needed some rehearsed action lines to avoid being coerced to stay on. In the end it took a revealing to the C/O of a "secret vice" before he finally accepted it and dropped me like a hot potato. [ The vice was listening to Heavy Rock music!] Perhaps there is a little "sin" you could confess to ?

BTW I would not expect a practicing witness to say anything about himself at this stage...Good luck, we have been there.....

If you missed meetings, they will want to do delete you. No need to step.... But if you want to step down out of the clear blue sky, you are going to have to give reasons. How could you have preteded without being detected? What do you mean by have the truth?

I have been a coward though as I am blaming stress depression etc

Don't think of it as cowardice, think of it as "strategy." Life is 99% attitude, after all. Develop an exit strategy and work the plan. If you need to be "sick" or "depressed," go for it. The more vague your "illness," by the way, the easier it will be. Dub elders run the other way when it appears you have a problem that can't be solved in two minutes.

It may help you to think hard about the fact that YOU hold the moral high ground in this matter. Take the position that you are departing primarily because the organization was not what you thought (or were told) it was. Focus on the hypocrisy and corruption you've seen and stand tall and look askance at their behavior. Be a better man. With that perspective, you'll weather the storm and retain your self-respect.

    Jwfreak,

    Welcome.

You did the right thing. I went through the same mess in 2000, finally made an issue with the WT over the UN in 2005 and 6, and was disfellowshipped last may.

It is good to have the release from their clutches. I was a witness for 45 years, an elder for 30. I am 60 and happier than ever that I made that step.

    Best to you!

    Brant
