What would a jw do if a householder insisted on seeing some form of identification?

Anyone else who came to my door (pre all my signs!) always offered id, even the boyscouts would introduce themself and identify their troop number.

With crime, etc. what it is today, I'm surprised anyone answers their door. JW's are probably scaring a lot of little old ladies by their door knocking!

Outaservice (who suggests they only witness by e-mail today)

PS E-mail can easily be erased

I think they would say that the laws don't require them to carry ID. I would think the group as a whole would liken carring ID to obtaining a licence to go door-to-door. They fought that in the courts vigourously.

Not a bad idea. I can imagine that people could pose as JWs to put people off guard.

JWs don't carry anything IDing them as JWs any more. Unless you are going into a prison or a jail, congregations don't issue IDs any more.

    *** km 2/89 pp. 3-4 Our Identification as Jehovah’s Witnesses ***

As ministers of the good news, we are known publicly as Jehovah’s Witnesses. Our voluntary participation in the field service is motivated by love of God and neighbor. It is not carried on at the insistence of any man or organization but is according to our God-given commission to preach the "good news" and make disciples. (Matt. 24:14; 28:19, 20) Therefore, publishers do well to avoid representing themselves as agents or representatives of the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Inc., or any other corporation used by "the faithful and discreet slave" to advance Kingdom interests.—Matt. 24:45-47.
In case of an accident or an emergency or if problems are encountered while working trailer parks, apartments, or certain other territory, publishers may need some form of personal identification beyond giving their name along with a brief Scriptural explanation of the nature of our religious work. If questioned, or when asked for credentials, baptized publishers may use the identification card (S-65) signed by the presiding overseer, which shows one is preaching the good news of the Kingdom in association with the local congregation named on the card.

A supply of identification cards (S-65), which may be issued to baptized publishers when there is a need, will be included with the annual shipment of congregation forms. If any publishers use a personal name card in connection with their field service activities, they should not print thereon that they are representatives of the Watchtower Society.

I supposed the could show you their Advanced Medical Directive Card (if they remember to carry it).

Thanks. I meant even a driver license or something with their personal name and address. After all, they are at my personal address why shouldn't I have theirs to return the favor if I choose to do so?

What a great way to protect their legal butts!---

It happened in this area. I think in the FORT, but can't recall.

Witness-imposters were gaining entrance to homes to burglarize by knocking, and when no answer, going around back and breaking in. Wish I knew where to find the article now - a while back.

Wow... just wow... you can't officially be doing the door-to-door work as a representative of the Watchtower Society?

    and...

Our voluntary participation in the field service is motivated by love of God and neighbor. It is not carried on at the insistence of any man or organization

Really... then how can they make service hours mandatory to be able to hold positions within the congregation? If they are, then this is rather a blatant lie, is it not?

You aren't required to go door-to-door by the organization, but if you don't, you won't get anywhere in the organization and will be considered "weak" or "inactive". And if you do, you can't claim to represent the organization.

And this subterfuge doesn't just smack of corrupt worldly corporate shenanigans? But I guess any sly, misleading policies are worth promoting Jehovah's chosen organization, right? And no wonder its people learn how to scheme and misrepresent truth. Poor saps.

Well as an active JW, if someone asked me for identification, I would show them my NO BLOOD CARD It has no picture but they would know I was the real deal. Then I would proceed to use that as a platform for a good bible discussion on blood

So you stay behind the locked door and say,
"How do I know that you're really one of Jehovah's Witness?

    The JW might respond,
"Well, I don't know how I could prove it to you... but I am."

    You shout back,
"I know... Go get one of your family members that doesn't agree with you... If you can bring them here, completely ignore them and treat em' like s#!t... then I'll know you truly are one of God's chosen ones!"

    Damn.... I crack myself up!
