The only thing I know is a problem is trying to copy and paste from WORD

Since I installed Explorer 7 I can't copy and paste from anything it seems.

Don't know if that is the problem here though

[Edited to add: This is a bit off-topic, but I think still relevant:]

Note that the Watchtower's self-insurance program, as it relates to losses/damages to Kingdom Halls, covers the MATERIALS only, NOT LABOR, [yet another distinction compared to "regular" insurance]

So if a Kingdom Hall suffers damage/loss, the organization will pay for replacement materials, BUT NOT THE LABOR.

This makes perfect sense from their point of view, I'm sure, as the orginal labor was contributed, why shouldn't the "brothers" contribute the repair/replacement labor as well. Of course if Congregation members are thinking of their annual "insurance payment" as providing for coverage like their own homeowner's policy, they are sadly mistaken.

I learned of this policy after a local Kingdom Hall was damaged [yes of course while I was still a dubbie]

Reading the Rules on Motion to Smash Summons (http://www.silentlambs.org/assistance/documents/slnorrisRulingonMotiontoQuashSummons.pdf) I found this, in page 3:

    "KHAA...
...Although Watch Tower PA characterizes "donations" to the program as voluntary, and ASSERTS that coverage IS NOT GUARANTEED in return, the documentation provides shows that all California congregations are covered by the program, and all are issued invoices and directed to make payments on the those invoices."

In that occasion, WTBTS was trying to show that Californi Court hasn't jurisdiction over a Pensilvania company, but the KHAA proves that WTBTS is present in California.

The most important fact is this: WTBTS itself said to Court "that coverage IS NOT GUARANTEED in return" to the congregations.

I'm glad I started this thread, for we (including myself) have found out more dirt.

thanks to many posters I have also found out some loop holes that will help against the WTBS

Not sure why this would be considered that big of a deal. Many large corporations are self insured and I would imagine the WTS is purchasing insurance for liability & property at some very high level. When you have the spread of risk they have, it makes sense for them to self insure. The "premium" reasonable and yes, they say it is voluntary. Local congregations can opt out and purchase their own insurance, but its more economical to go thru the KHAA.

The comment about why the KH can't be used for many activities is a very valid one. I'm not sure how their claims handling is because I've never known anyone who has collected. Generally, the locals will fix the damage themselves and only call on the KHAA if the bill is too big. What would be interesting to find out is how much they collect vs how much is paid out and if they surcharge certain congregations that have claims.

It's ironic that the Society is now faced with all the headaches and problems as other large corporations and property owners. This is the price of the expansion and building frenzy of the past few years. Now, the property becomes a target for lawsuits. And the Society has to maintain insurance coverage, lawyers fees and other expenses that come with the ownership of property.

How much simpler it would have been if they followed the example of the early Christians with home-congregations and no printing facilities. But, of course, this would not have accomplished the world empire of printing that the Watchtower has created. Jesus warning still seems to apply: "What profit is it to man if he gains the whole world but loses his own soul?"
