I always thought the Reasoning book enabled a JW to find an answer to a subject without doing much research. It was all laid out for you. I even had it bound together with my bible by that JW bookbinder guy, I think his name was Ed.

We were told by COs that we could read straight from it to the HH. I never did as I had a hard time reading a rationaliztion as if my thinking was being dictated to me. Plus the Reasoning book is no Bible Encyclopedia like we were told.

I thought they already did demonize the internet by stating the only site you were allowed to visit was the watchtower.org site . There are alot of dangers on the web , I do agree with that . I remember the book study I went to out of the blue just because of some web rumor of a special talk or some crap and the elder in charge definately demonized the web and also not knowing the official watchtower site he demonized it until somebody corrected him.LOL

As has been brought out, the Reasoning Book was a replacement/update to an earlier Magazine Distributors Aid book. Megsmomma makes a good point about it.

The reasoning book is sort of like the brain wash training manual

JW did not have to think, research. Householder heard something that was an answer, some thought it must be correct because it was supplied as an answer to MY question, asked by others before, now in print, it must be true.

The internet- they put themselves in a bind way back when they said they could not make a list of songs or movies or television programs for JW's to view/hear. Now that would be true of internet. They know it is a research tool, they tell us to research. They know many JW use it to plan travel to their conventions, check the weather, news. How can they just attack the entire internet? Well, they did attack dances like the Twist back in the day, and in the 90's, they attacked Rap music, specifically (no matter what artist, clean or not) and said that even clean lyrics are from Ganster-style artists or are associated with that kind. That cracked the door open for them to tell JW's what to do, beyond the scriptures with the media/entertainment. They will do the same with internet. They have cracked the door, and knowing how bad they look to internet users, they will expand their control. I tell you what. It won't really work. Die-hards will listen, the rest will ignore. How many Witnesses have had the Twist at their gatherings? Plenty, and the stuff that is played today (but not considered Rap) at gatherings is far worse than they would have allowed in the past. How many JW's saw movies with ghosts, or magic, or rappers? The more they say not to look, the more young people will google search. If they lose 75 percent of the children growing up with JW parents, and growth from outside is hoped for, they are dreamers. Outsiders are more-and-more learning to google/yahoo/askJeeves/Wikapedia. Demonizing the internet only buys some time for the faithful to be faithful.
