I've seen a study that indicates money positively correlates to happiness up until the $50K income level. After that there is not much difference.
$50K is near the median family income. Perhaps people are satisfied once they can buy what their peers are buying.
I remember when I got a job making 50% of what I make now. I felt so wealthy. Bought designer clothes (on sale), had my hair done at a high-end "salon", spoiled my daughter with toys, etc, etc, etc. and even managed to save a fair amount of money. That came to an end when I bought my house, and it became a money pit. I haven't felt as affluent since.
DOES MONEY BUY HAPPINESS?

Nothing will BUY you happiness. Happiness comes from within.
B U T ..........having money to be able to enjoy life's extras or to help others isn't too bad either. It enhances what happiness you already have in your life.

True money won't buy happiness but it sure does leave a lot of stress out of the situation.

I think that the people who say this are people who have plenty of money! No, money alone can't buy happiness if there are other non-monetary issues to deal with, but let me tell you that being poor sure as heck doesn't earn you happiness either.
I can totally see what Serendipity said:

When some people are very wealthy, they might begin to buy things that require a lot of maintenance and upkeep, like having 2 homes, an in-ground pool, a boat, etc. Then their lives revolve around maintaining all their stuff, and they don't enjoy them as much. I never aspire to have 2 homes (just seems wrong when there are people in this world who don't even have ONE home!); I just want to live comfortably, and not feel guilty about buying "expensive" unnecessary items at the grocery store like Toaster Streudels for my son!

I think winning the lottery would bring me much happiness. I usually buy Power Ball lottery tickets (1 per draw). I figure I get a $1.00 worth of fun out of just thinking about who all I would write checks to for the max I could without having to pay gift taxes each year. . . . NO - NONE would go to WTS.

Money can buy fun and confidence, time and meaning. That would certainly make me happier.
It's a shame that most lottery winnings go to people who don't know how to handle sudden money and have never thought about the way their relationships are going to change or how to make the most of their lives now.

One goshdarn thing is for sure losing money doesn't make me happy - so in turn I'll bet finding money does.
I'll be rich or poor you will find losing money makes you very unhappy. So the inverse is likely to be true. -

I wouldn't say that it buys happiness, but it certainly can relieve an amazing amount of stress! THink about what it would be like never having to worry about how your bills will be paid each month, to go out to dinner if you don't want to cook. To have enough money to care for your necessities and even some wants, and still be able to help others who are not as financially blessed is a great feeling. Money can buy peace of mind, but the happiness part is up to the individual, not the income.
