Hi Hambeak,
Have you tried garage sales or estate sales to find wall art? often times, the price is right and changing the frame to suit your decor makes all the difference. what happens to be your style? sometimes painting something yourself kinda abstract allows ones personal touch and you can include colors that fit your pallet.
Out here, starving art students will hold galleries at hotels and such and sometimes you can get unframed artwork for less than 100$
Were you looking for just one picture, over the sofa?

Well, what you can do is take 3 canvas's...and pick 3 colors (you can use the stenciling paint at w-mart) Then paint each one a differnt color and hang behind the couch. If you are pretty good at art, you can paint 3 cavas's the same color...then do a couple wave designs that flow through all three pics with different colors. (my hubby came up with that idea and I painted it...I just drew 3 rectangle shapes on practice paper and drew out some waves till I thought it looked good...I also painted a few squares here and there on the canvas for something extra)We have each canvas about a foot apart, so it takes up a big wall, and it looks cool.

HI hambeak, Here's a web site with a fantastic collection: http://www.art.com/ Also, there are a few stores at Grapevine Mills Mall that have a good selection of reasonably priced art, including canvas transfers in oil.

Good tip MM,
HB, I know you prefer oils and watercolors but another cool idea depending on the size of the picture/s you want, take your camera and photograph things in and outside your home from odd angles. have them enlarged to the sizes you want, frame them and hang them up in groupings. it also adds a personal touch and is quite the conversation piece when friends come over and ask what these are?
Just two more cents, that's four so far

Hambeak,
There is a really, really, really cool store pretty close to you. Have you heard of "Garden Ridge"? The one I used to go to is on I-35, not far from George W Busch Highway. It's on the east side of the highway as you go into Louisville.
This store is wonderful, and very reasonably priced!! I love it more than Walmart. Well, ok, as much!! They are full of wonderful things to decorate with. The staff is really great, too!

Hambeak, Is it all just green and beige?
Oil paintings and/or water colors are very expensive, and the mass produced oils have a cheap look. I would pick some prints by a favorite artist and have them blown up to the size you want at a local photography shop. They can do marvelous things now and then have them framed,.... hang pictures about 10 inches above the back of furniture.
If you have no other colors in your room, pick 2 colors from your art work and buy toss pillows for your couch in those same colors, repeat those choices throughout the room with accessories. That will bring your room completely to life. Don't forget lighting, one of the most important things. A couple of 10.00 uplights with 50watt halogen spot bulbs in the corners add tremendous atmosphere.

If you're within reasonable driving distance from a college or university with a fine arts program, student art is often sold for very reasonable prices. I've seen some amazing pieces. Plus there's a chance such art may increase in value in the future. Check for college art show and gallery schedules.
