Who is going to pay for your legal defense and/or any fines you will get for a HIPA violation? How do you pay attornies when your license is suspended? What facility will ever hire you with a HIPA violation on your record? What if the parties decide to sue you in civil court? What if you lose your nursing license?

A JW health-care professional would probably not take it to court? They'd think they were doing Jah's will by turning in the 'wrongdoer' even if it meant losing their job. A big martyr, really, how wonderful a "witness" for jah .... At my hospital, a HIPPA violation is pretty much a straight-up termination. And another facility *might* hire someone with that on their record (a person from our lab did this and was hired in the same field elsewhere, so it does happen) If the parties decide to sue, I'm guessing the JW is up a creek.... and a loss of license -- RNs, does that happen? We MTs wouldn't lose our certification, but we're different. (in a good way. lol) I work with a JW CNA and always wonder what would happen if someone in the cong came in and needed a transfusion or was even given the 'just in case' armband... or anything that might smell of needing tattling on (just seeing that a preg test was DONE would raise a JW's suspicion, even if it was just for pre-surg....) Personally, I think having a JW on staff sucks... ~merfi

In WA state healthcare providers can get thier licenses suspended including LPN's and RN's. A criminal conviction, even non healthcare related, can result in permanent license suspension. I get a monthly local business journal that has a complete listing of healthcare provider licensure actions.

Hiring a JW in the healthcare field would be playing with fire. Hiring someone with a HIPA violation would also be playing with fire. Hiring a JW with a HIPA violation would be playing with nuclear weapons. It would be a very gloomy job search at best even for volunteer positions.

When I was an EMT I transported an elder from one hosp. to another. During the transport I was going through his chart to get pertinent info for my report and stumbled across his toxscreen report. Nicotine was listed along with a numerical value. After the transport I asked an ED doc what that value would equate to in cigarettes. It turns out to have been approx two packs. That was an enlightening experience for me and I started to see the smoke clear on many aspects of JW's.

The thought of turning him in at a time when he and his family were dealing with a serious health crisis was unthinkable and inhuman. But we all know of JW's that would have and I find that beyond obscene.

    "Kick em' when they're up"

    "Kick em' when they're down"

    "Kick em' when they're up"

    "Kick em' all aroun' "

You dont really need to find out whats going on
You dont really want to know just how far its gone
    Just leave well enough alone

I 100% agree with this. It's just so unthinkably wrong to bring down a person's house of cards, their very foundation, at a time when their life may be in crisis. Why crash everything else?? All in the name of "accountability" control.

Hey Brent -- my EMT 'brothers' have replaced the creep fake bros at the KH. They are amazing.... you guys rock. :)

From the time you dial 911 to the time EMS arrives you cannot cover up very much evidence of addictions, lifestyles etc. that may be in your house or car. I could write a book about what I saw along with the book cases and shelves of WTS publications. But I was also aware of my own issues and seeing this certainly balanced out any guilt I was dealing with. It changed my perspective alot seeing that reality. Some of it was funny, some sad and some just plain wierd.

We all had our hangups and issues and we all would deal with them on our terms when we were good and ready to. And many of them did just that, without elders and kangaroo courts.

As a 'faded' JW, I'd imagine that it's not your conscience telling you to dob on these folks; you know it's wrong and are not doing it. Am I right in thinking that you're wondering if this will come back to bite you; that you might get in trouble from the JWs for not reporting something? But, if you're the only person with the info, how could that happen?

I have been out of the Borg for twenty years now so I could give a S&*% what they think about me. When I was working in EMS I was not required to report anything except child abuse, and that was to CPS (Child Protective Services). It is the same as if you went to your medical doctor to get help for a meth addiction. Your doctor is not going to report you to the police, they are bound by confidentiality laws. Even if they were not very few if any would do that to someone who is comming to them for help.

What if people were afraid to call 911 because there would be a chance that I was one duty and would smell the pot smoke and then rat them out? That would truly be blood guilt with a very literal meaning.

My conscience would not have allowed me to turn someone in, especially while they were in the middle of a medical crisis. As a result I gained the deepest trust from many JW's. Many of them came to me to find out how to get medical help for an addiction . They were able to do it without the elders breathing down thier necks and the additional stress of worrying about what this would do to thier "standing in the congregation". In return, these were the people I could turn to in confidence in a crisis. I learned that unconditional love flows in all directions.

Oddly enough many of these people still maintain communication with me two decades later. Some are still in and alot more are out. The ones that are still in have to be very careful because I am one of "the bad people".

Jeez guys. I am not turning anybody in for anything. I simply asked a question. I need the information to make a comparison in a custody battle AGAINST my son in law who is suing for full custody, insists on raising the young ones as proper, little JW's. He has them spying, and tattling on each other for every little thing they do when at their Mom's house. I just remembered the article and how the society tells us in every aspect of our lives how we need to be policing others, turn them in, and keep the cong. clean. I tossed all my books, couldn't remember where the article was. Thanks to all who helped. Cindy

My daughter's ex, JW hubby, is suing her for full custody of their children. One of the kids came through the kitchen, and stated, "I am telling my Dad on you." Nothing was going on, just sitting there. Explained to him that what we do is our business. "No, my Dad said I should tell him EVERYTHING that happens at my Moms house." Anyway, I am trying to make a comparison, with my job as a nurse, how JW's demand complete loyalty, in all areas of life, NO MATTER WHAT. I would never turn anyone in. I wish I had never heard of Jehovah's Witnesse.

This is where you tell the kids that in order to be fair to everyone, they'll have to start telling you everything that happens at their dad's house. See how JW-Daddy likes that.

Definitely this needs to be brought to the attention of legal counsel and the judge hearing the case. It is so clearly wrong for one parent to pit the child against the other parent. If anything, the child needs to hear it from a professional (doctor, lawyer, another nurse, for instance) that this behaviour is very harmful to him emotionally and psychologically. Why can't he just be a kid, and enjoy the time he spends with his mom and grandmother, and just love his mom and be loved by her, instead of being sent there with a spy mission?? What kind of idiot puts that kind of stress on a kid?

    Thanks Scully,

I know why they act like they do. They are special. They are the only ones who are going to make it into the new order, and we are under the control of Satan. That only makes it worse. Our attorney has put in for an evaluation, going to try to prove alienation. Let's see, "When you and Daddy Ray die at Armageddon, ****** will be our real Mom." "You don't love Jah, so you will die at Armageddon, if I am with you, I will die."Our nine year old Grandson told us last week that they(the elders?) are going over the info with him to get baptised. NINE. Can't afford Magnani, but ordered his kit. Our attorney is willing to do what we ask, hope he can handle it. Our court date is set for Jan.9. Trying to find any info I can. Thanks again. Sorry if I seem overly sensitive. I guess after years of.........I am. I'll try to do better. Cindy
