Ugh.
Please, oh please, oh pleeeeeaaaase. don't join that religion. I was raised in it, and was a member until I became a dub in my early 20's. If you want to be in a cult, just go back to the dubs. OK, that's not fair, they aren't exactly a cult, just damn close, and they do not use the bible the way you might think. Dubs have Russel ... C.S. have Mary Baker Eddy, a complete fruitcake. They use her book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" to do what the wt society does with its publications. They say the book is inspired by God. That M.B.E. frantically wrote the book while locked away in her room and that it is inspired. Bible meaning is only understood from the perspective of what the S & H says, not from what the Bible itself says. The S & H is respected...the Bible is not. I've seen the religion from the inside, I know.
If you think dubs are bad because they will let their kids die because of blood, brother you ain't see nothin' yet. Let's talk torture for a minute shall we...
C.S. are a "faith healing" religion. If you get hurt as a kid, there is an ENOURMOUSLY high chance you ain't going to the emergency room. We'll just "pray" you better. I am mostly blind in one eye because of their doctrine. Instead of getting treatment for an eye condition when I was a kid, my parents just tried to "pray" it away. Ofcourse it didn't work. I paid the price.
Another time, when I was about 4 years old (this is my first memory btw), I was down in the basement with my mom. She was cleaning my Dad's workbench, and I was goofing around. I reached up as high as my little arms would go and tugged on my Dad's very large vice. That vice was always around, so from an adult perspective seeing it later I can tell yo that it weighed probably about 40Lbs. It wasn't bolted down, and came off the bench and crushed my foot. They tried to pray that away. I remember for months being forced to shove my broken foot into my tight dress shoes so we could get to the Sunday meeting, me crying and screaming from the pain of it. We just needed to have more faith and pray harder and I'd be fine. It wasn't until one of my sisters in law threatened to call childs protective services that they took me for an x-ray. By then it had started to heal, but wrong, and had to be re-broken to set right. This all is totally in line with their teachings and is the norm for them.
Many of my friends at the church had similar things happen. One kid's head was almost crushed by a closing garage door (they didn't used to have sensors that would make them stop if someting got in the way). He survived it because the door didn't get all the way down, but they never took him to a doctor for it.
Just a few examples of their whackiness (and danger).
I could go on forever today, but I gotta get my mind off this now.
