    Billzfan,

My determination to play come hell or high water led to my mother turning me over to the state as a youngster, which then lead to foster care

Wow, that's the craziest thing I've ever seen! No offense, but your mother seems "a bit" unstable. Wow, just wow.

I always wanted to play but never could have gotten away with crossing my dad on that one. It just wasn't worth it.

Now, when I started working in an office, I played on the company softball team. It was great fun but I felt quite guilty about it. Even missed meetings to play! But, when I decided to get serious about "the truth" I stopped.

I like many others turned down college but again I'm making up for it by going to school now. Shhh don't tell anyone. The funny thing is that when I casually mentioned that I was going back to school to my folks, they were very proud? Uh, didn't you guys tell me when I was a teenager that college was from the devil???

But, like you billzfan, I'm going to give my kids an opportunity to play, if thats what they want to do.

Step-dad was non-dub. I got to play any sport I wanted after he and my mom decided that hangin' with the pot-smoking PE crowd wasn't a good idea. I loved playin' football in small-town Texas. Friday Night Lights, Baby!

I think that's when I realized that the lies about the "worldy" [sic] people weren't as evil as I had been told by the Witlesses.

I really wanted to play sports but knew there was no chance whatsoever. Now for the first time I'm playing on an adult co-ed volleyball league. My team is made up of five ex-dubs and three never-been-a-dubs. Always cracks me up because we are the most competitive team and I'm pretty sure it's because most of us were not allowed to play competitively as kids.

I love that my eight year old daughter is able to play team sports. I think it's so important for girls to play team sports. She plays volleyball in the spring and fall and basketball in winter. It's awesome.

My husband snuck around and forged his parents signatures on parental forms when he was in high school. Fast forward years later . . . . we allowed our kids to start playing optimist basketball and tackle football. Week after week, their names and sometimes pictures were reported in the newspaper. Mind you, these same adults, who sneared about my kids playing sports have season tickets to the Dolphins and Heat. It was hysterical watching them jet out of the hall to get to a 1:00 or 2:00 game! I wish one of them had said something to me!!!

My dad wasn't JW so I was able to play soccer when I was a kid-till I was teased out of it. I was a wuss. I am lucky to have had my dad. He never gave me any religious instruction except that he showed me that one did not need to be religious to truly love, care, and be generous to others.

You know, until I wrote this, I never really thought of what a great lesson he DID give me. I always knew he was a great dad, but he probably got me questioning the borg as much as any of my honestly nice, decent Christian (and non christian) friends ever did. Probably more than they did. Man, that was subtle. Took me this long to figure it out. Whoever started this-thank you!!

My brother Darin was an excellent basketball player, and back in the 7th grade the coach asked him to join the team. Dad (Elder) refused to allow him play, and we were furious, and Darin was really hurt. I argued back and forth with Dad that night and then finally we decided to switch custody and live with Mom again. I really despise this cult, mostly for the psychological damage it does to children.

My mother was a witness my father was not. My mother said I couldnt play sports so I went against her and played anyways for a couple of years in Jr. high school.

I was allowed to play basketball in high school even though my dad was the congregation servant as it was called back in the 50s. He came to some of my games. The games weren't on meeting nights.

I wasn't into sports, but I did decide to get involved in extracurricular things in my Senior year of high school, joining several school clubs. I also went to my Senior Prom....even ended up going to three proms (since I went out at the time with someone from another school).

When I was in school, back in the Pleistocene Era, JW kids played sports. A very prominent elder in Oregon, was at my high school. He was a basketball star and participated in baseball and track too. Another guy, who is also an elder in this area was not only on the track team, he was a cheerleader at his high school. His girlfriend, also a JW, was the Senior Class President.

I was on the Bowling Team. Hahhahahha. Now, that really sounds nerdy doesn't it?
