Along with the economy topic this morning, I thought this was very ineresting,

Illeagan alians were arrested (about 1,400) from a meet packing company (several States). Americans are lining up for the jobs. What is it we hear all the time? They're doing jobs Americans won't.

The line of applicants hoping to fill jobs vacated by undocumented workers taken away by immigration agents at the Swift & Co. meat-processing plant earlier this week was out the door Thursday.

Amazing isn't it? There isn't a job out there a Legal American won't do. It's just a matter of making a liveable wage.

I guess we can look for the price of Spam to go up now that they have to actually pay the Federally required minimum wage to LEGAL workers.

Nina, the company will not likely be paying any more in wages than previously, at least not at first. US Companies can get away with hiring illegals (so long as they have a level of plausible deniability), but they can't get away with paying them less than minimum wage. In fact, all those illegals that were caught up in the raids were having SS and FICA taken out of their paychecks too.

Prices could of course increase from this situation because of a) the disruption, and b) new workers may quit sooner (more turnover, less efficiency) and produce less, and c) if these really are legal workers, they may be more inclined to demand higher wages through union action.

Of course, it could be a line of 1400 illegal immigrants out the door, for all we know.

LOL. So true. Also, how many of those are qualified and hard workers? A lot is left to be seen, right? Because the illegals usually work their butts off and produce a lot. That's why companies like them. I mean how long do you think the vet standing at the corner asking for a hand-out would last in a real job?

True, Sixy! I stand corrected. Well, actually I'm sitting down . . .

Good posts. I don't think prices will go up considering the compitition. The illeagals are hard workers, but I'm a firm supporter of strong borders and a worker program.

"In fact, all those illegals that were caught up in the raids were having SS and FICA taken out of their paychecks too." That's very interesting - It never crossed my mind that illegals would be contributing to SS.

That's a shame. They work for probably minimun wages, get taxes and SS taken out and they still make better money that at home.

The scary part is many of those SS numbers are stolen. Could it be yours?
