The last DC I booked a hotel room for was when we were returning from 8 glorious days on the beach. The roach haven we stayed in at the DC was one of the low points of our vacation. Only the DC ranked lower. Come to think of it, that was also the last DC I ever attended although I did attend weekly sales meetings at the KH for several more years.

Although I don't know this as a fact, I suspect that the WTS is negotiating some pretty lucrative rebates from these hotels (which of course the rank and file JW pays) because they can guarantee a full house at $XXX per night. I believe this is why the WTS so blatantly attempts to control where the JW's stay, so they maximize their rebate. If this is the case, it is unlikely they will be getting rid of their rooming department anytime soon!

With the org's current cashflow problems, that's a given.

As to cellphones, I remember announcements to turn them off and pagers to vibrate. I remember too that there was an annoucement that parents should watch their children more carefully (teenagers) who were text messaging to each other during the sessions.

Pagers and Cell Phones: These should be set so as not to cause a distraction.

Accidents and Emergencies: Emergency-response services have complained that they receive many cell-phone calls to 911 over minor matters. If a medical emergency arises at the convention site, please contact a nearby attendant, who will immediately notify the First Aid Department so that our qualified first-aid personnel on site can assess the seriousness of the situation and render assistance. If necessary, 911 will be called.

    *** km 7/02 p. 3 Question Box ***

What should we bear in mind when using cellular telephones and electronic pagers?

Such devices can enable us to contact others nearly any place we might be. While this may be useful, we must be careful not to allow the use of cell phones and pagers at inappropriate times to detract from our ministry or Christian meetings. How could this happen?

Consider the effect it would have if our cell phone rang or our pager beeped while we were engaging in the field ministry giving a witness. What would the householder think? What impression might we leave if we stopped to answer the call? We would certainly not want to do anything to hinder others from listening to the Kingdom message. (2 Cor. 6:3) Hence, if we are carrying a cell phone or a pager, we should set it so that it does not interrupt us or others while we are engaging in the field ministry.

What about when we are waiting while others are giving a witness? If we have set aside a period of time for field service, should we not keep our minds on that activity? Out of respect for our sacred service, please care for unnecessary personal business or social interests at another time. (Rom. 12:7) This would not, of course, rule out using a phone to give a further witness or to make an appointment to do so.

We must be especially cautious about using cell phones while driving, since some studies show that doing so greatly increases the risk of having an accident. We should strictly observe any laws that restrict the use of cell phones while driving.

We come to Christian meetings, assemblies, and conventions to worship Jehovah and be taught by him. Should not appreciation for the sacredness of these occasions move us to set cell phones and pagers so that they do not distract us or others? If there is an urgent matter requiring our immediate attention, we should attend to it outside the place of meeting. Otherwise, we should arrange to care for personal and secular matters at times other than those designated for worship.—1 Cor. 10:24.

May the way we use cellular phones or any other electronic equipment always show consideration for others and deep appreciation for spiritual things.

The WBTS negotiates with hotels and get FREE ROOMS (KICKBACKS)

They cover it up and the R&F don't know anything about their scheme.I was aproached to

book one of these free ROOMS however, I was told to make the payment directly to

WATCHTOWER.I ask how did this work and was told because WTS books so many rooms

they get a certain amount GRATIS. In any case I would be paying for the rooms so just think

of this as a donation to the WBTS.I just could not believe the under hand scheme. Why not let the poor have the rooms

Probably just as well, too. In most Bethelites' minds, more than 3 shakes would be crossing the line between business and pleasure...

Further to my last post. They WTS does not want you to bring food or coffee in the commerical logo

container,EX.No Starbucks coffee in a Starbuck cup. They want you to transfer in to a brown bag.

So no one knows whats in the bag.Kind of dumb is it not, could be a bomb..booommmmb.

Also they make a big stink about when and where the convention is held every year. And

no one should make any hotel room reservation because you don't know what city the convention

is being held, RIGHT.WRONG.Good old faithfull INTERNET,just go online and see which weekend

and city the rooms are getting booked.Usually the 3/4 day bookings is a give away.I have tried

this "tried and true method" it works.Do this before the end of the year good luck.

I will look at the OKM. Is that in print? The plastic and paper bags I use have to be generic now?
What kind of a cult would care that I got my coffee at Dunkin or Starbucks or McDonalds?

The answer is that you will not find this on print, and most don't care what you have for coffee or donuts. I used to bring McDonald's breakfast with me all the time to the assemblies, no one ever mentioned anything about it. At times I would go out at lunch time and bring in food, nobody stopped me and mentioned anything. I even remember ordering pizza when staying late in the Hall for either cleaning or doing accounting or literature duties. Not once did anyone had a problem, instead most were very thankful.

The thing with all these crazy rules is just like everything else, there's some real overzealous people that make their own rules and want them to be followed. Most of the time these rules are made up by elders who are too strict and usually not liked by anybody. Therefore they like the fact that they are given power by those who follow their made up rules.
