Frankly, tv commercials nowdays offend me and get me angry. I hate the geico commercials which are very intrusive and retarded. I also dislike the sexual exancements commercials/ What a bunch of trash are todays commercials, probably just like the item it advertizes. There was one commercial were a man ate something from the drain.
I beleive in freedom of speech but I do not think that it is fair that I should have to give up tv watching in order to avoid being offended by viewing this trash.
What I can't stand, are the relentless adds for medications. one after another, after another......

Get Tivo or a DVR then you don't have to worry about the commericals. If you can't afford that turn the TV off.
I don't mind commercials that give me facts about the product or service. That goes for radio as well as TV. What I dislike is a commercial that relies on sex or stupid humour to capture the attention of the audience. I'm not going to buy a product because a TV actress has nice boobs or because some guy can act like an idiot. If anything, I tend to avoid using the products and services of companies that resort to that kind of advertising.

That and the crazy frog are the nadir of modern television advertising.
I actually like Geico commericals a lot, at least before they overplay them several billion times. I guess ppl in the U.K. haven't seen Geico adverts?
A lot of thought goes into commercials, so that they work on at least 2 levels. I think they are designed to force a reaction, good preferrably, but bad is ok, too. Either way, they don't want to go unnoticed. Recognising all of that, i hate most of them. They make people look/act stupid, push fantasies, imply things in snide ways, etc.

I just think there are too many. I was watching TV the other night and there were 6 minutes of commercials, before they went back to the show. Then 5 minutes of the show and then more commercials.
When I was about 13 and needing feminine hygiene products, I remember thinking to myself, that those were items that would never be advertised on television. How wrong I was!!
Mom always said that you remember the offensive commercials, good or bad. When you are in a store, and see that brand, you will probably reach for it. So they work on many levels.
I think that the Geico ads with the cavemen are the best commercials on television today. I think they are hysterical.
I agree with you fisherman, The ones I hate are the ads that feature new movies that are horror or so violent that you have to turn off the TV, change the channel or leave the room. I also hate the exploitation of women as this is just too degrading using sex on things that don't even apply. I also disagree that certain celebs should be used just because they are one doesn't mean that they know the product or store.

That is one of the worst commercials!! I use the Mute button for commercials. There are some that are cute - usually the ones w/the animals in it.
