Hehe a gross subject but worthy of airing. Because so many people are unhygienic I won't go to a public swimming pool. If people are already filthy then they're unlikely to wash themselves beforehand in the shower. Therefore they're taking into the water all sorts of 'matter' from every orifice and pore in their body. What do the swimming pools do? Add more chlorine, LOL. A heady mix of human gravy and bleach.

The worst places are Super-markets, both men and women, staff and customers,

come out of the "rest-rooms/bogs/lavatory" without washing their hands,

    AND THEN handle the food.

    It is disgusting!!

Clam along with your aversion to public swimming pools add showers at the gym, and hot tubs. In high school we had to take showers after gym class and I picked up a planters wart. (I always had flip flops on, but it didn't matter.) Extremely painful and took months to get rid of. These viruses are very common in public areas where it is warm and wet.

A friend of ours is an Assistant Chief in a local fire department; formerly, she was a nurse. She suspected the firefighters of not washing their hands after using the facilities. To drive home the issue of spreading germs, unbeknownst to them, she placed a chemical that reacts to ultraviolet light on the inside of the mensroom stalls. IF, they washed their hands after exiting the stalls, the chemical would wash off. If not, the chemical would be transferred to everything these guys touched.

Later that day, she held a training class to review the subject matter. She asked how many regularly washed their hands after using the bathroom. Of course, all hands went up. Then, she brought out the ultraviolet light. It was gross. All these guys had stripes of the chemical on down their pant legs, on their shirts, on their faces, by their eyes. Then, they walked the station; this stuff was EVERYWHERE. On all the doors, even the refrigerator, on papers.

They were very embarrassed, and it certainly drove home the point!

It reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry goes to Poppy's restaurant. Poppy doesn't wash his hands when Jerry is in the restroom and then the next scene is Poppy kneading some dough or something fixing Jerry's meal.

"Heyya, POPPY gonna fixa you a good meal heh!"

That's why it's a good idea to avoid the snack bowls in public restaurants / bars.

One more tip, get some clorox wipes and do every handle in your house, the top of your keyboards, steering wheel of your car and last but not least the telephones.....their have been studies done showing how germ laden these surfaces are.

My family has not had the flu or a cold in about 5 years. (I probably just jinxed myself!)

I had a time a few years ago where I was getting sick over and over and couldn't get better. I had never been much of a neat freak. I figured that even if you were careful, the next person probably won't be and you'll shake his hand or touch a doorknob after him. My doctor got worried because I was going to the doctor so much so he started asking me about my daily habits. I was a bank teller and I was eating snacks between customers. Of course you cant wash your hands when you don't have a sink. He asked me to quit doing that and to be careful to wash my hands as often as possible. It was amazing but I got well and have hardly been sick since. Just a cold once a year or so. It made me a believer.
