The common theme here of course being, people prefer stories to statistics.
"Did you see the news last night! Did you see that crime! I *know* the end is so close!"
The reasoning is frighteningly similar.

OUTLAW, no man, I was asking if Ginko really works for memory, not for sleep. I would not trade the melatonin 3mg for anything right now. I can be certain of a good night of sleep with it. Now if Ginko can sharpen my memory, watch out!
Is there anything for "faster than a speeding bullet" or "more powerful than a locomotive" or "able to leap tall buildings in a single bound?"
OUTLAW said,
I have my memory and vocabulary back..
True, your LOLs never looked sharper... LOL
I have tried melatonin- it does nothing for my sleep. It is wasted on me, but I have known others who use it.
I many people use benadryl 25 mg, for years to sleep. It can be very effective..
JayHawk..LOL!!..Yes,Gingko is the sh*t!..I was pretty bad for awhile..It`s very frusterating when you lose your memory and vocabulary....Faster than a speeding bullet?..More powerfull than a locomotive?..I think your looking for Viagra!..LOL!!...OUTLAW
Wednesday,
Funny how that works! Benadryhl does nothing for me. I use so much of the stuff for allergies, that it never makes me sleepy anymore.
OUTLAW,
Viagra, nooooooo way! Thanks, but no thanks.
I really think the proof is in the pudding, as they say. If something is generally known to work for people and it helps you, why not use it?
I take several off label drugs. Thank goodness I have progressive docs.
wednesday, the issue comes down to, how do you determine if something is true or not? Do you ask a bunch of people their opinions? Is there a more methodical approach that can yield better results?
This approach is used when confirming psychics or astrology. People remember the hits and forget the misses. People have observational biases. Eliminating the "human" factor from this sort of investigation has shown to be the best approach we currently have.
In the end, its not the results of scientific medicine that is important, rather, its the method. The method has saved us from the countless quackery that used to be peddled. In a historical context, quackery is at a low, however, there are still many people who subscribe to the method of truth-testing. I can personally related to this flaw in thinking. (As everyone else here can)

Well, I would agree to disagree w/ that statement considering there was a study done about melatonin in the journals of modern medicine, feel free to google it and read it for yourself. In particular it was done around 5 years ago and specifically addressed flight attendants and their irregular sleep patterns.
As for your black & white thinking and broad sweeping statements, hmmm, reminds me of the WTBTS way of thinking as well. Maybe a little "who knows, maybe we are all correct, because if you find something that works for you GOOD ON YA" I know, novel concept to be open minded and give a positive word now and again, but try it, it just might bring your memory back (hee, hee, just wanted to light the tone a little)
Huh?? What did I say about melatonin!? Way to put words in my mouth. :)
