Totally believable. I knew a simmilar elder who had a brother pitch his "demonized" furniture off the landing in his second floor apartment.

This elder must have had some experience in dealing with demons
to give him this idea of approaching a problem marriage this way.
Even though his methods and suggestions seemed outrageous, to the
uniformed, he was not necessarily wrong in considering demonic influence in the couple's marriage. However, his method of interpreting any demonic influence upon the couple bordered on a spiritualist approach, especially with his use of hands upon the wall. One could do the same just feeling flat-handed the air about them within the room.A similar case might be when a couple rents a motel room where the previous occupants were adulterers or fornicators, or whatever. By this, a demonic presence could be present and manifest itself in some way upon the current occupants, such as weird, violent, or frightening dreams, or whatever.
When one is dealing with or being affected by the demonic supernatural, they must then use fervent prayer to the Father through Jesus. You don't go tearing into a wall. The Holy Spirit is what enables any of your resistance against the demons. This is one reason to know intelligently about the person of the Holy Spirit and his relationship to the Father and our Lord Jesus Christ.
This brings to the fore a Christian knowing his position in relationship to unclean spirits, most of whom are totally ignorant of who they are in Christ. Without further awareness, it is not possible to know how foolish or knowledgeable this elder was. By the response of most of you, I suggest you do some good reading about the influence of Satan in all of our lives. Christian are alien residents in this demonic world. We are in enemy territory constantly. Ignorance of the influences of the enemy, where he
is, and how he works, makes a Christian a sitting duck. Have you ever wondered why and how Christians can be so dysfunctional, so distorted, and abusive to others they love. Can any of you discern between your thoughts and those thoughts demons can actuate within your mind; I doubt it.This elder was at a very probable disadvantage, since he was tied into a false lying prophesying organization [same as divination]. The WT keeps JW's extremely ignorant of how to handle demonic influences, and their Christian's position over them. There was probably no one to help this elder learn in his dealing with the demons. There are plenty of books at Christian book stores that cover the topic of demonic oppression [not possession] upon Christians. For those that don't understand, I suggest you don't remain igorant about who you are in Christ.

The elder actually was a very nice sincere man.
Yes, the story is true.
He was removed as an elder in another congregation for being so ecentric, but went to another congregation and was recomended at the strong encouragement from the CO(Conti), who had somewhat similar points of veiw.Thomas Poole,
I personally feel his approach as well as your's, is pretty far away from anything I ever read in the Bible. I think people like yourself sometimes use fear of demons posessed objects to keep people in a state of fear to manipulate.If someone lived a trillion X longer than you, and had a billion X more reasoning ability would he come to the same conclusions as you?
