What keeps them going and going week after week?

Is it fear of being destroyed?

Fear of missing out on Paradise?

    Their faith?

What keeps them going each week? Fear!

In my experience there are many, many Witnesses who are very burned out and unhappy. In one hall I was in about 75% of the congregation was on antidepressant medication (including me). I feel so sorry for those who I left behind and pray for them that they one day can experience the freedom I now have. Most won't leave because although they are unhappy, some part of them still believes that the org. is the only way to God and fear being destroyed if they leave. And for many who do leave, they stay in limbo still believing that that they left the truth but did so because they could not measure up in some way. It is very sad really when you stop and think about it. Yet for me and others, it is bittersweet because we have come out of that. Peace, Lilly

In the past, I saw many leave. Probably they were the weak ones or the ones who saw clearly.

But those that remain, don't seem to want to let go.

I wonder what motivates them more than those who left?

That was the way I felt for a long time.

    Greetings JH,

Great question. I think there's a host of reasons why some just won't leave. Up here I think that if certain ones left (many are related to each other) it would start a tremendous "domino effect", and they not have the guts to admit after all these years they were dead wrong.

Others wouldn't have the slightest idea of what to do with themselves, and would probably would jump off a bridge.

    I agree with Lilybird.

Fear is a very strong glue. They fear losing their friends and family. They fear criticism and disfellowshiping. They fear being destroyed at Armageddon. In fact every time they watch the TV news they see something that convinces them they have a lot to be fearful about.

I'm sure that some in the congregation wished they had the guts and courage to leave, like some did.

I'm sure that some must think, some incactive ones made a perfect escape, don't come back !!!

Fear is a strong reason, but also if you have invested so much of your life and maybe your childrens, how can you now turn around and say " I dont want this anymore".

If there were no conseqences, like losing family and friends thousands would leave

Inheritantly it is hard to say "I am wrong"

It is hard to come to face that you wasted your life, turned away from so much including family, some people love being spoon fed instead of seeing their responsibility and obligation to God. The reasons are many, we are also creatures of habit. I believe if everyone could just walk away from it all, you could buy a KH for pennies on the dollar in many places.
