I don't know why they took the story off, but here it is:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. helicopter gunship conducted a strike against two suspected al Qaeda operatives in southern Somalia, but it was not known whether the mission was successful, CBS News reported on Monday.

The U.S. Air Force helicopter, operated by the Special Operations Command, flew from its base in Djibouti to the southern tip of Somalia, where the al Qaeda suspects were believed to have fled from the capital Mogadishu, the U.S. network reported.

A Pentagon spokesman said he had no information on the report.

The al Qaeda operatives, who were not named, included a suspect in the car bomb attacks on the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998, the report said.

It means Bush needs something positive (e.g. a success against Al Qaeda/GWOT vs. continued sinking w/ Iraq millstone) to talk about for his State of the Union. *being cynical*

Is it then a red herring thrown into distract Bush's embarrassment when he pulls the troops?

Have you ever read the book - How the Other Half Lives by Jacob Riis? At the time when thousands upon thousands were living in the slums of New York, 12 families living in one house and paying greedy, slum landlords for the privilege of doing so, dying by the hundreds and living in houses along with hogs, political corruption and croniism was then at its best - there still ran ads in the local papers to donate to the unfortunate in Africa. Interesting this was written in the 1880's, yet one has to wonder at the parallels - the people were able to ignore the wretched and poor amongst them, while contributing to those charities they deemed worthy of their charity. It's like a can of worms has been opened up with the war in Iraq and now the can has become a keg of writhing, multiplying, smothering mess on the verge of explosion. sammieswife.
