Shining Rock Wilderness, with a view of Cold Mountain:

Blackpearl was right: Coeur d'Alene, Idaho is everything you asked for in your list. We considered moving there, but it doesn't rain enough for us, we really like rain

It's beautiful there.. and housing prices are still within reason. They have four solid seasons. It's not a huge city, but Spokane Washington is close enough to go shopping in when you feel the urge for a big mall.

    Forget Missouri!

We have HIGH crime (according to the lastest polls) and HIGH humidity.

Don't know how the job market is as I have been retired for a few years. Lots of mexicans here in the construction work too. They came in when we had all those hail storms a few years ago and it seems like all it does now is hail...they just keep staying and living in motels..and can't or won't speak english.A few of them ended up working in fast food and retail and you can't understand a word they say.Very frustrating.

Talking about wasps..my JW MIL's house in the country got wasps in the siding of the house. They were so bad in the basement and attic she got stung several times. (Sat on one in the basement)

She wouldn't let an exterminator come and spray because it was toxic..so when we visited she would have us "Vaccumn" (suck them up with the tube) up the wasps.ALIVE.

Then we would take the vaccumn outside and empty it .We never did get ahead of them. I think they came back in while we were emptying them..a never ending battle.

Snoozy..who no longer has to vaccumn up wasps.. nasty little buggers.

I have lived places I didn't like before. Usually, I got used to them after a couple of years though. I lived in S.E. Louisiana for a lot of my childhood and lived in North Louisiana for a year as an adult. While I don't like the humidity on the Gulf coast, I must say I love the people of Louisiana. I love the culture there. I love the food. I found people very kind and generous, even the JW's. I have not found people like them anywhere. How long have you been there? And aren't you there under the worst of circumstances? You are ranting, I realize this, but I find your words aren't the kindest to the good people of Louisiana. I hope they won't prejudice others against Louisiana and her people as well, speaking the way you are.

My mother grew up in a very refined and well educated family in the City of Atlanta, Ga. She moved to Mobile, Alabama when she married my father. Five of her six children were born in Mobile, including me. My father was an oceanographer, so we ended up in Morgan City where he worked for a company called Oceanics. They did work on the ocean floor looking for places to drill. My mother was a classical pianist who taught piano lessons to the local children. We were members of the tiny Trinity Episcopal church where mother directed the choir. My parents were members of the local theater group and all of us kids were involved in dancing lessons, scouts, band, 4-H, bowling, little league and so many other things. We stayed busy, had good friends and had full lives. We played in the woods and enjoyed the unique animals and nature. We braved hurricane Betsy and the 90 mile an hour winds of the outer edges of Camille. I wouldn't trade the experience of living there for anything. I have lived many places including Oahu, Hawaii. I like where I live now which is SW Michigan. The people here are very vanilla and bland compared to Louisiana though. I miss the characters. The climate is nice and the crime rate is low. But the economy isn't great.

I asked Mother, years later after we moved to Atlanta, which was her favorite place she had lived out of Atlanta, Auburn, Alabama (she and Daddy met at Auburn University when they were students there), Morgan City and Atlanta again. She said hands down it was Louisiana. It sounds to me like you are so miserable, you are closing your eyes to the culture, beauty (spanish moss hanging from huge old oak trees) and blessings of the area. The music and food alone is nothing else on earth. It saddens me that you are there, where I'd love to be and you see only negative things.

I am sick of being nice to people who are so very mean in return.

Your bigoted feelings towards them might have a little bit to do with it. They, the local folks, aren't as stupid as you think they are. What kind of vibes do you think you're giving off? I don't find it easy being warm and friendly to people who come at me with an air of superiority. You can't feel the way you do, example below, and expect it not to come across very strongly. How sad.

Everyone is imbred and trashy, and thinks the world owes them.

And to your comment, I add a double

    New Mexico, good choice!

No state income tax (Texas has a huge vehicle tax/license)

    Just outside the tornado belt

Has snow if you want it and not if you don't

Check the state websites for agencies that help you know what they have to offer new residents.
