I'm sure many of you have allready heard of this movie before, but for newbies I just wanted to let people know that this movie was available free to watch on google video.

The video is entitled 'called to be free'. It relates the story of the Worldwide Church of God and its transformation from Cult to Christianity. It is amazing how similiar this group was to JWs. Even teachings that seem to be differant (like british israelism), have striking parallels to the JWs teaching of 'spiritual israel'.

This is a must see for all on the board. Here is the link:

Drew, wasn't this the California bunch that followed an old coot named A.A.Armstrong?

The Watchtower Society used to always claim he was paigarising their literature, maybe even sued him a time or two.

And you are right, if this is the one, they were really as alike as two peas in a pod on most things.

Wow! Didn't know about that. If you have any details on that I would love to hear it.

This is the group that followed Armstrong. It is so amazing when you simply change a few things around.

Change their belief in Armstrong to that of the 'Faithful Slave', and change their belief of 'British Israelism' with the JW idea of 'Spiritual Israel' and you have basically got the same religion. Quite an amazing thing.

So it is the guy - anyway, as I recall it - he had his own version of the Watchtower, called "The Plain Truth" as I recall. I think it was over this magazine and some articles that had a lot of similarity to the WT stuff that drew the fire. Don't know if this is documented or just rumor, but maybe I can find something (or some other scholar on the board).

He used to have a TV program as well, while the WT depended on the magazines for the most part.

Drew, I really like this video. I watched it a few months back, and then later found Gregg Albregts web site at www.ptm.org The plain truth magazine is still being published by PTM but it's nothing like it used to be. I think Greggs ministry is excellent for anybody that came from a cult background. seek2find

    Wow.

    Has anyone read Feazell's book?

I hear the similarities are astounding. It's on my list.

It's all the same. - Madonna

Thanks for this one Drew. I just finished listening to it. I don't think that the Watchtower will ever do this.

Last year sometime I ended up at a site all about WCG and one of the amazing similarities [to the WT] that just JUMPED OUT was the fact that the WCG taught its followers that it had ALWAYS HAD followers ALL THE WAY BACK to the FIRST CENTURY, and that this PROVED it was the TRUE RELIGION.

I remember that was just soooooo, like, OMG, THEY ARE ALL SO SIMILAR in their teachings (I mean their LIES).

And thanks for the movie tip!
