Background: The fam. is doing the fade. Everyone but mom (30 years in the org) is completely convinced that it's a scam. She was over the midway point believing it was a cult. But thanks to the elder cult member she is semi believing.

This is the excuse she gives: "They (org) are imperfect. You should fogive them."

My rebuttals have been not been good enough I guess.

    Suggestions to that statement?

They are as imperfect as the Catholic church. Why not follow them?

If she's been thinking this for a while, a five-minute argument will not dissuade her. She'll be ok. Jdub's rely on 5 wasted hours a week to "inculcate" there fallacies into weak minds. If she's got a strong mind, she'll shrug it off. Slash her tires so she isn't able to knock on doors on Saturdays. If she does believe in that crap, she'll take it as a sign that God doesn't want her to go door to door.

What does forgiving them have to do with following them?

The organization claims to be from god yet demonstrates by its almost fanatical attachment to laws, rules, and regulations that go beyond in many, many instances what the bible teaches that they are instead the spiritual descendents of the pharisees.

I think once youve placed a seed of doubt in her mind, she will never think the same. Even if now she is defending it, she will still be thinking about it.

    WAC,

This is the excuse she gives: "They (org) are imperfect. You should fogive them."

Yes, I tried to use this logic in 1968, when becoming a JW ... but the JW man studying with me said that there is a point of no forgiveness, and one must put truth and God ahead of men. The problem is, the Society will always use the logic that favors choosing it, and simulataneously disfavors all other groups.

Yes, you can forgive, if you forgive the Society ... but not Christian Churches.

Yes, you must leave a religion that does wrong or false things, but you must not leave the Society ... for it is juist imperfection.

Yes, the Elders are only imperfect, and you must look beyond their mistakes, but the mistakes of the Clergy of Christendom are guided by the Devil.

The game is rigged ... and there is not room for intellectual honesty.
