I was there. We stayed with a family in the Watts district. We are white. I remember getting gas one day on the way in to the convention and everyone staring at us. I had no idea that within a short period of time that area would erupt into massive riots. I remember the rainy day too, I remember we all pulled out plastic and draped ourselves. I remember poking holes in the plastic with my fingers because I was so bored. But hell, I was only 6 at the time.

That was the year my dad was going to get us some sort of vehicle put together - to drive there, and spend the week there.(Camping, probably.) Mind you... my mom was just studying, and my dad was on the outskirts - listening - as it were.

My family... all 7 of us - along with my 2 parents went to my dads' moms funeral - I think it was in June of that year. On the way home that night, we were involved in a head-on car crash that killed my dad, one of my sisters, and sent the rest of us to the local Sid Peterson Hospital in Kerrville - where I spent my summer recuperating.

So - we missed the ordeal in Pasadena, CA. However, I seem to remember other JWs who visited us in the hospital telling us tales of the assembly - after they went.

Wow, how bad it sounds I'm glad I wasn't even born yet. I do remember going to Pasadena for an assembly sometime in the mid 70's but I don't remember too much about it.

My mother and father were there and she was pregnant with me (she wasn't sure at the time). She missed almost the entire assembly because of the heat; made her sick, along with me.

I have an old letter about the event.

Man you people make me ill! How can you speak badly about the bountiful banquet of spirtual food given there!

Don't you know that everyone who faithfully attended those 8 day conventions held in the last days will never die, but will go straight to the New Systen and be perfect?

    I never!

GaryBuss- That assembly you refer to was at the Ventura Co. fairgrounds just south of Santa Barbara. I was there. It was just a couple of weeks before my wife and I got married. I think I saw you there, I'll never forget the hat.

Last 7 day assemblies I remember were in the Astrodome. Early/mid 70's I believe. I remember being exausted, but it was fun because we had family and friends from several states; tent's in the yard. Praise The Lord!

Looks like that spiritual food spoiled in the desert sun. Bizarre how anyone became or stayed a JW after going to one of those 7-8 day sales meetings. What was Watchtower thinking? How did anybody get anything benefitial from going to those events?

I wish they would have another 7 day convention just so we can see what the attendence would be? Do you think most JWs would go to all 7 days?

    I was there!!!

But I was only 7. Do you remember the international visitors all dressed up in native dress? I only remember the Japanese.

However, I think I remember doing street work with sandwich boards in Pasadena...does anybody else remember that?

And I think I was at Ventura County fair grounds also in 1964. We moved to Oxnard and went to the conventions usually there or Santa Barbara as well as Santa Maria. Except for 1969, back to Dodger.

Who woulda thunk we'd be here today. I sure didn't.

Ventura Co. fairgrounds, Yup, that's the place. I had been camping on the beach at Refugio State Beach before the convention and I went to that assembly as red as a boiled lobster.
