    Harp of God 39

Eden contained perfect food that would have sustained the perfect man and he would not have died had he remained in Eden, unless Jehovah had put him to death in some direct manner. But God drove him out of Eden, took him away from the perfect food, caused him to gather his food from among the thorns and thistles and from other imperfect elements of the earth that were found outside of Eden; and in this condition he continued to sicken and to die until at the end of the period of 930 years he was dead.

This theme is repeated numerous times throughout the 20s and 30s. As a speculation on my part: it reflected into the WTS admonition against vaccinations, aluminum cookware and, ultimately, laid the "psychological" basis for the blood transfusion ban.

...and when the perfect food was removed, he only lived another 900 + years.

Swalker (going to look for imperfect food...)

The paradoxical relationship between (1) short-term eschatology and (2) food & health concerns is a very interesting feature of Adventism as a whole -- not only the WT.

Obviously Eve did not wash the apple before giving it to Adam.

Maybe what Adam needed was some miracle wheat to sustain him outside the garden of Eden.

    ... interesting ...

I see this story in a very different way

Adam and Eve were uncounscious of the good and the bad (they can't be responsible) it's like saying to kid since the first time you do not obbey to me you're going die. (this story is full of symbolism - it shouldn't be read word for word). We are Adam and Eve at birth and we will all have to chose in between the good and the bad but from some global experience (not same for everybody).

from some global experience - Not same for everybody because we are all different spirits (and have different nature from the start)

    KAYTEE:

Obviously Eve did not wash the apple before giving it to Adam.

Perhaps that explains why snakes and devils die:

    Harp of God p.37

Doubtless the devil himself ate of the fruit in the presence of Eve...

RAF, you raise an interesting point.

I've come to the conclusion that, insofar as the Genesis account is relevant to human existence, it's meaning is that humanity must take that first step of self-awareness...and the responsibilities for self-decision that come along with that step. Really, I see what "happened" at Eden as a requirement.

Could you please elaborate? How is it that this is a "feature" of Adventism?
