Yes, I used Awakes and other publications for assignments, projects, talks and debates (including cutting out pictures and using them in the projects).
Reading Awake! was as good as a college degree - wasn't it??

Yes, I used the Awakes - and other JW literature to do a report on LSD - and the dangers - etc.
I also seem to remember having to include a bibliography - and after the teacher saw my report - she handed it back and told me that I needed to include other sources. This forced me to go to the library and obtain other information on LSD. If I was paying attention... it was probably a good thing... as it forced me to think... and read... information other than that provided by the WTS.
(I also seem to recall wondering why I was required to provide a bibliography - when the WTBTS didn't use one.)

As I think back to high school no I never did. It never even crossed my mind as a valid resource for research. I was too much of a library rat I guess.
When my daughter was in 5th grade I home schooled her because of an illness she had. And I used the Awake articles on plants and animals to cover some of the science and nature carriculum. I have to say that both my kids learned a lot about exotic plants and wild life from the magazines. The thing they didn't learn from the magazines was the bible! LOL Lilly
Every time I had an assignment, mom and dad would say, why don't you choose something from the Magazines? "Uh, maybe because I don't WANT to preach to my class". I did it anyway. Nearly every big project in school was a derivitive of an article.
Yes, I did. I used them several times for a basis of speeches. (I used to write my brothers speeches for him too, and used them then as well.)
