Aba - you dog. (and rumor has it she's tanked most shows too)

I may be a dog, but this is what I've been howling to...

    Lost in a dream
Don't know which way to go
If you are all that you seem
Then baby I'm movin' way too slow

    I've been a fool before
Wouldn't like to get my love caught
    In the slammin' door
    How about some information--please

    [Chorus:]
    Straight up now tell me
Do you really want to love me forever oh oh oh
Or am I caught in a hit and run

    Straight up now tell me
Is it gonna be you and me together oh oh oh
    Are you just having fun

    Time's standing still
    Waiting for some small clue
    I keep getting chills
When I think your love is true

    I've been a fool before
Wouldn't like to get my love caught
    In the slammin' door
    How about some information--please

    [Chorus:]
    Straight up now tell me
Do you really want to love me forever oh oh oh
Or am I caught in a hit and run
    Straight up now tell me
Is it gonna be you and me together oh oh oh
    Are you just having fun

You are so hard to read
    You play hide and seek
    With your true intentions
    If you're only playing games
I'll just have to say--bye bye bye bye bye bye bye bye bye

    Do do you love me
    Do do you love me
    Do do you love me
Do do you love me ?

    I've been a fool before
Wouldn't like to get my love caught
    In the slammin' door
Are you more than hot for me
Or am I a page in your history-book

I don't mean to make demands
But the word and the deed go hand in hand
    How about some information--please

    [Chorus cont.]

    I've been a fool before
Wouldn't like to get my love caught
    In the slammin' door
Are you more than hot for me
Or am I a page in your history-book
I don't mean to make demands
But the word and the deed go hand in hand
    How about some information--please

I've watched a lot of Idol - love the early shows with all the self-deluded wannabees. When it gets down to the last 5-10, then it's just a popularity contest.

But, I've not even been tempted to buy one of the CDs of the finalists. Carrie Underwood is already one of the most successful, because she was country/pop, which was at least a little different. There are a huge number of very talented but essentially generic people on there. I prefer singer/songwriter/musicians.

Can you imagine - Bob Dylan or Willy Nelson or Neal Young or Jimi Hendrix or Kurt Cobain or even any of the Beatles would never have made it to Hollywood on Idol. I think it was Joni Mitchell who said about Idol: "It's not a show about creative people, it's a show about CREATED people."

American Idol is about POP CULTURE, and not talent. What is hot right now? What is selling right now? Although they have been lucky with such break out talents as Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkston, and Clay Aiken. Other people that won have fallen flat, as they were hot then, gone now. Fantasia Barino, who was like the one everyone rooted for, can hardly get anything going. The guy who won last year, won because of personality and not talent. It is expected that his album success will be limited. Then there is the odd happening of Jennifer Hudson who is nominated for an Oscar. Can you believe that? It is hit and miss, much like all parts of entertainment, but POP CULTURE = American Idol and as long as they bring up talent of the day and change with the time, it will last for a long time. I normally slow in my watching, after the person I want to win is voted off. Last year that was Chris Doutry, when he was off, I stopped watching. Not even the final show.

Its true here in Canada with Canadian Idol. The winners from the last few years have really done nothing, but a contestant that was in the top 10 and voted after after the first few weeks , now has a big recording career here in Canada. He has his own band called "Headly" which is his last name. He has several hits out a year.Although I think this years winner, Eva Avilla will do well also.

Last year Simon made a comment about a larger woman's weight and had to answer for it later too. I do feel that he often says what most people are thinking, and his rudeness is what makes people want to watch more. I think his personal attacks against people's appearances is out of line though. I don't like comments like that, they hurt.

This is a huge reason why I don't like this show. My husband really likes these first episodes where they're auditioning people. To me, it's just cruel. I think some are on there and know they can't sing, but just want 30 seconds of fame. Others I think really do believe they are great and wonderful singers. They get up there, Simon tells them it was the most dreadful thing he's ever heard, they walk off crying. They have to go back home, live it down and all the while people are laughing their asses off. I am still trying to figure out why it's funny to laugh at another person's humiliation. I love Paula too even though she annoys me at times. She is obviously loaded on something during most, if not all tapings. I saw a biography on her and apparently she has to take a lot of pain pills due to an injury while dancing.

I look forward to American Idol every season. The tryouts are not that interesting to me, but I do watch them.

I think Paula seems normal, just like she always was. I've seen the questionable tape, where she seems to be silly and "fuzzy", but as someone already said, she has had a really bad time with a back injury, and maybe the pain pills got to her.

I'm with you Mulan. I do like the auditions, there are some pretty wacky people out there. But I cannot wait for the competition to start. I especially love seeing the contestants evolve and push themselves further than they imagined.
