Will Lack of Leadership Sink the JW Ship?

I consider this topic thread to be the very essence of what this site is all about. I think when you read between the lines of what is going on with the WTS you may be looking at the beginning of the end. From the withering Governing Body of a multi-million dollar organization that lacks a pool of young, sharp CEO/CFO/COO's types to take the helm with some very cynical business/doctrinal savvy (that would be a rare combination of skills) down to grass roots elders to keep the proletariat in line with their eyes glazed over.

Combine the above with the ticking clock, lawsuits, money problems and the decline in growth and you begin to see their current resurrection of the "armageddon is any minute now" tactic as a desperation move. I am encouraged.

How many times can you get your "second wind"? They are way overdrawn.

There will always be the peons who can fill the void who have been waiting for their opportunity to be the overlord and the prestige that goes with it. In any corporation, people are always dispensible. So long as r&f always beleive that there is holy spirit directing these guys, then there games will continue. This well oiled machine has been around for so long it could practically run itself . It's the ideology and fear tactics itself, that give the org the teeth that it has.

Now there is a statement begging for contradiction! Sounds like something the stockholders of General Motors might have said a few years ago.

    Gregor,

Tyrone may be right - I think the WTS is on some kind of auto-pilot - just the same old things over and over. Not a new idea in decades, probably since the elder arrangement came in in the early 1970s. After that, all of the changes have been just manuevers to cover their ass.

I also think that if it is on auto-pilot, it'll just wind down and stop eventually, for all the reasons we're talking about here.

The WTS is not operating in a vacuum. Older members are dying/leaving. New blood doesn't have the stability of a membership made up of extended families as in the good ol' days. The world and everything in it is in flux. I stand by my view that they are in decline.

The wit messes have structured there system uniquely differently then other corporations and are not subject to the same things that effect different companies. They have very little accountability and are run by a team of lawyers. Further they remain unchanged in their ways because they have never had competition to deal with. It's a totally different animal. They have restrucured there leadership at the top to protect there interests so that there's no one you can really choke.

    6 elders in my hall.

The PO is a charismatic company man. From outward appearances he does care for people, but his true care is for the Org's best interests. He can always be counted on to play with the young people at picnics. During studies he will unfailingly praise the WTS in every comment. Without him the congregation would be dragging itself along.

Everybody loves my grampa and his "homegrown wisdom" that makes everyone feel at ease.

One elder is quite softspoken and loves to spy on the activity of the young people. He sits in the back of the hall (due to an embarassing muscle twitch) and doesn't like to get confrontational. Being from the Midwest, he is an exceptional bowler.

Another elder has panic attacks if he gets anywhere close to the stage. He cannot conduct a bookstudy or give talks. Currently he is a space-filler.

There's an elder from New York who is a close talker. He complains about not getting enough hands during the Watchtower study, but then proceeds to call on the same 6 people all study long. The man can be friendly, but his mannerisms border on the creepy. His wife is somewhat of a shrew.

The last elder is also a pioneer, like his whole family. He had a career in radio, and is more or less normal, but his family are hardcore Borg clones. His family business will take him and his family out of state every month, and he always asks me to cover his slack for conducting field service meetings. Imagine a black Bill Lumbergh (from Office Space) and that would be him.

The problem is that no one wants to step up and become MSs. I don't know what they are going to do when the CO comes around and they haven't met their quota.

Former congregation before I moved out : 9 elders & 7 ministerial servants

    Now : 4 elders & 5 ministerial servants

Current congregation when I moved in : 7 elders & 4 ministerial servants

    Now : 4 elders & 7 ministerial servants

    Evidence indicates a spiraling down.
